"I have read the victim’s family statements, I understand their concern that she fulfill her sentencing and Ms Montgomery needs to remember a young man’s life was lost. She has a consequence to pay for that. The family was generous to ask for probation in lieu of prison. So my ruling today, is that Ms Montgomery’s license will remain suspended."

Dear Lt. Governor Dan Patrick,

With all due respect, thank you for your response and thank you for being a supporter of the bill. However, as our Lt. Governor, and as a last ditch effort, you had the opportunity to make our voices heard in last night’s final Senate session and get that 1 vote needed for this bill to pass, despite Senator Burton’s threats to stall the final session.

I actually have a question for you. What is the sufficient number of deaths that we need to record in Texas so that the Senate feels we have a good number of fatalities and injuries. So far it is 1.3K plus deaths each year in Texas because of distracted drivers on their cell phones, and we know that is the LOW number. Is it 2K, 3K, 4K? I am not being smart with this question. I really would like that number? If any of the “Nay” Senators, that did not have the guts to give the one vote required, because the threat of filibuster, by Konni Burton, had been affected YET, I can answer that for you. One! That’s right, one, when it becomes one of their innocent children or family member.

We have thousands of deaths and tens of thousands in injuries, and rising every day in Texas. Frankly, it sickens me that Texas has the gall to publish those numbers on our freeway signs, yet our government REFUSES to put in place laws to reduce those numbers. When Texas has to add to that number substantially this coming year, I hope all of the majority Texans, that were for this bill, are watching come election time. We will continue to make our voices heard, as you requested in your email response below.

Texas is typically a leader in the forefront of protecting our citizens. We are 1 of 4 states in the nation with no law. In this case, many of the politicians against this bill are also part of our Texting, Talking on Cell Phones/Laptops etc, while driving PROBLEM. They to jeopardize ALL other Texans on the road every day, all the while….. conducting Texas Government business. They would not want that LIBERTY taken from them. We as Texas Voters do not condone this behavior while we pay your salary. WAKE UP TEXAS SENATE and HANG UP & DRIVE.

This legislative session, we are faced with a number of challenges, including reforming our educational system to provide Texans more choice, lowering property and business taxes across the state and securing our borders – just to name a few.
