🏛️ The Federal Reserve raised its benchmark interest rate for the first time in three years, moving it up 0.25% to a range of 3.75%–4%.

The move comes as energy prices and AI-related spending push inflation above the Fed’s 2% goal.

What it means for your wallet:
▪️ Credit cards and auto loans can reprice quickly
▪️ 30-year mortgage rates are nearing 7%
▪️ Unemployment remains steady at 4.1%

Changes like these can have a real impact on borrowing and spending decisions.

Most officials penciled in one more increase this year. An energy shock and a surge of AI investment have reshaped the inflation outlook.

The U.S. and Canada reached a last-minute agreement to delay 50% tariffs on $20 billion worth of Canadian goods.

The delay gives both countries more time to negotiate, but trade uncertainty isn’t over yet.

Bottom line: The tariffs are delayed, not gone.

Inflation is still higher than the Federal Reserve would like. Prices rose 3.7% over the past year, while “core” inflation, which leaves out food and energy, rose 3.3%.

The good news? Gas and some energy costs fell in July. But overall, everyday prices are still going up.

Inflation will continue to be an important factor in the Fed’s decisions about interest rates.
