The IRS is sending information letters to taxpayers that received advance child tax credit payments and Economic Impact Payments in 2021. The purpose of these letters is to help taxpayers reduce tax return errors and prevent delays in the processing of their tax returns by informing you of the amount of payments that you have received.
The advance child tax credit payments letter is Letter 6419. The IRS began sending these letters out in December 2021.
The Economic Impact Payment letter is Letter 6475. This letter contains information about the Third Economic Impact Payment. You can expect to receive this letter in late January.
These two letters are important in the preparation of your tax return. The amounts reported on the letters help determine if you have received the stimulus payments that you were eligible for. If you have either or both of these letters, please be sure to provide them to your tax preparer.
Finally, the IRS has announced that they will begin processing Forms 1040 on January 24th, 2022.
Thank you,
