Monday Mindset Fix: You're about to raise expectations on your team, and some part of you already feels guilty about it.
Maybe you're thinking, they were hired for a different job than this. Maybe you're thinking, they've already been through so much change this year.
Here's something worth knowing before you talk yourself out of it. In almost every case, the only real agreement between you and your team is employment at will. That means you were never actually promising anyone a job that stays exactly the same forever. Neither were they promising to stay in it forever, unchanged, no matter what.
So when you raise the bar, you're not breaking a deal. You're doing the job you were actually hired to do, seeing what someone's capable of before they see it themselves.
If part of you has been avoiding a hard conversation about raised expectations because it feels unfair, that guilt is worth examining, not obeying.
If you're navigating a change like this with your team right now, a consultation is where we'd work through your plan to motivate your team by stretching them.
