Handsome Fluke

Thanks Green Dog Pet Supply. Fluke is happy we won the prize. He plans on sharing the little dog food cans with our neighbor chiweenies. He is especially happy about his favorite kind of ball.

Spend a little time searching the Internet for a name no one else is using. Pick something that stands out. You will need this name to register your business with the state.

In Oregon, it costs $50 to register an assumed business name or $100 to register an LLC. Either way, the state issues you a number which you’ll need to open a bank account. Also check with your city & county to see if you need a business license. In Portland, this is free.

𝗚𝗲𝘁 𝗮 𝘀𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀
The most common mistake I’ve seen with new businesses is using a personal bank account for business income and expenses. Don’t do this! Instead, open an account under your business name and put a little startup money into it. Use that money to buy any supplies or marketing materials you might need. Come tax time, you’ll be glad you did this.

𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆
If you don’t want to spend money on accounting software, create a simple spreadsheet to record things. Stick to money going into and out of your business – no personal expenses. Eventually, you’ll want to invest in software like QuickBooks Online, but at first a simple spreadsheet can work if you’re on a tight budget.
