The Motown Museum's new building behind Hitsville U.S.A. is 40,000 square feet. Hitsville is the house where Berry Gordy started Motown in 1959.
The addition brings a performance theater, a working recording studio, a cafe, a store and interactive exhibits built from Motown's catalog and interview archives. The museum already draws 100,000 visitors a year and expects at least 325,000 once it's open.
Construction wraps this fall and the grand opening is set for spring 2027. Guided tours of Hitsville have been paused since January and won't resume until it opens.
