Scam Alert: Fake Emails from the IRS
Scammers are once again sending emails that pretend to be from the IRS.
Remember: the IRS does not send unsolicited emails about tax refunds, tax debts, or recently filed returns. You will never receive official IRS documents by email that you must download to your computer.
If you receive an unexpected email claiming to be from the IRS, do not click any links and do not open any attachments.
If you are unsure, go directly to the official website irs.gov and check the status of your account there, instead of using any links in the email.
