Print this one out and read it over Labor Day weekend. Seriously – pour some coffee, sit on the porch, and give it ten minutes. It's worth it.

Just got back from Jackson Hole - turns out we missed the other Jackson Hole gathering by a few weeks. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh showed up hawkish, rate hike odds jumped to 60% for September, and nobody invited me. Probably because "forceful suggestions" and a live mic in front of the FOMC seemed like a combustible combination. Full breakdown on the blog - link below.

This Fourth of July, I'm thinking about two groups of people we owe a great deal to.
First, our Founding Fathers, who had the courage to break from the only system they'd ever known, and the foresight to build something designed to protect individual liberty rather than concentrate power. The idea that a person's rights don't depend on the permission of a king, or anyone else, was radical then and still matters now. Land of the free isn't just a line in a song. It's the freedom to build a business, raise a family your own way, speak your mind, and chart your own path, with the government answering to the people instead of the other way around.
Second, the men and women of our military, past and present, who stand watch so the rest of us can actually live that freedom without a second thought about our safety.
Independence isn't free. It was earned, and it's maintained every single day. Grateful for both.
Happy Fourth of July!
