🚨 Crypto holders: Watch your (snail) mail. The IRS and Coinbase are warning about a convincing new scam.

Scammers are sending official-looking letters in plain envelopes claiming that crypto holders must “enroll” in a Digital Asset Compliance Portal, or DACP, before a deadline. The letter includes a QR code that leads to a fake IRS website.

This is a scam. The portal does not exist.

The IRS will not require you to register your crypto exchange or wallet through a QR code.

But the scammers want you to think that it does. The letters may appear to come from the Department of the Treasury or IRS in Austin, Texas, and may include a notice number such as CP14-432RA. The details can vary, but the goal is the same: to collect information and set up a phone call with someone pretending to represent the IRS, a crypto exchange, or a compliance office.

⚠️ Do not scan the QR code or visit the website listed in the letter.
⚠️ Do not enter your name, phone number, exchange, wallet, or holdings.
⚠️ Do not share a password, two-factor authentication code, or recovery phrase.
⚠️ Do not move crypto to a supposedly “safe” or “protected” wallet (this is a common trick).
⚠️ And DO NOT call any numbers on the letter or website.
If you have questions about your account, contact your exchange directly through its official app or website.

If you already entered information, change your passwords, review your two-factor authentication settings, and contact your exchange immediately through its official support channels.

You can report IRS-related scams at IRS.gov and report fraud to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.

Let's be careful out there.
