One thing I've learned while building a business alongside my career:

You don't have to have your entire future figured out before you start something new.

You don't necessarily have to quit your job.

You don't have to have a business degree.

You don't have to know exactly where it will take you.

And you definitely don't have to be an expert on day one.

Sometimes you just need to be willing to learn.

That's a big part of what I'm doing right now.

I'm building a financial education business alongside my legal career, learning the business as I go, meeting new people, and figuring out what I can build over time.

And I'm realizing there are a lot of people who are interested in doing *something* different—but don't necessarily want to walk away from everything they already have.

Maybe they want another challenge.

Maybe they want to learn something new.

Maybe they want to build something of their own.

Maybe they're simply curious about what else is out there.

There's no single right path.

But if you've been thinking, “I'd like to build something, too,” I'd genuinely enjoy talking with you.

Sometimes the first step is just a conversation.

“I don't really need a budget. I make enough money.”

I've heard variations of this more times than I can count.

But income and financial organization aren't the same thing.

You can make $50,000 a year and be extremely intentional with your money.

You can make $150,000 a year and still have no idea where your money is going.

And you can make $300,000 a year and still feel financially stretched.

The point of a budget isn't necessarily to tell you that you can't spend money.

It's to help you understand:

Where is my money going?
What matters to me?
What am I prioritizing?
And is the way I'm using my money actually aligned with those priorities?

There's no one-size-fits-all answer.

But understanding your numbers is a pretty good place to start.

Be honest: do you actually know where your money goes every month?

Financial Conversations We Should Be Having : Retirement Income

Saving for retirement is important.

But saving is only part of the conversation.

At some point, your retirement savings have to become retirement income--and understanding how that transition works can be just as important as accumulating the money in the first place.

So here's the question:

Do you know where your retirement income will come from?

I've had a few people ask me lately:

**“So, what exactly are you building?”**

Fair question. 😊

I'm building a business centered around financial education—helping people understand the financial decisions they're making and how those pieces fit together.

And I'm also building a team of people who want to learn this business and help others do the same.

I'm doing this alongside my legal career, so I'm not pretending it's an overnight transformation or some magic shortcut.

It's something I'm intentionally building over time.

What I like most about it is the combination of things:

**Learning.
Helping.
Building relationships.
And creating something of my own.**

I'm still early in the process, but I'm excited about where it can go.

And I'm always interested in meeting people who are curious, motivated, and interested in doing something a little different.

If that's you, I'm always happy to have a conversation.

Financial Conversations We Should Be Having: Emergency Funds

How long could your savings carry you if your paycheck stopped tomorrow?

There's no universal number that works for everyone. The right emergency-fund target depends on your income, expenses, obligations, and circumstances.

Knowing your number is what matters.

So...do you know yours?

I've been thinking a lot lately about what it means to build something of your own.

I've spent most of my career in corporate America, and I've learned a lot along the way. I've built a career I'm proud of, worked on some pretty incredible projects, and met some great people.

But I've also realized that I'm interested in something beyond simply having a career.

I'm interested in building.

Building relationships.

Building knowledge.

Building something that can grow.

And maybe most importantly, building something that gives me the opportunity to help other people along the way.

I'm still figuring out exactly what that looks like.

But I'm enjoying the process.

And I've found that some of the most interesting conversations start with a pretty simple question:

What would you build if you weren't limited to the traditional path?

I'm curious—what would you build?

How long could your current savings carry you if your income stopped tomorrow?

There isn't a magic number that works for everyone. Your emergency-fund target should reflect your actual life--not someone else's rule of thumb.

That's why understanding your own numbers matters

Financial Conversations we Should Be Having is about exactly that: the money conversations we often don't have until we really need to.

What would you consider a comfortable emergency-fund cushion?
