Scoville Bookkeeping Solutions Are you having trouble seeing the big picture? You started your business because you love doing your thing, not finances. I am Josh Scoville.
(1)

Do you feel caught in the weeds of daily struggles and can't rise to see the big picture where business is and where it's going? You started your business to do something other than manage transactions, right? You wanted to make the next big product, build amazing buildings, help patients feel better, repair appliances, or make awesome food your customers love, and the list goes on. You didn't start a business to get stuck in the back office keeping the books, preparing balance sheets, and sending invoices. That's where my firm Scoville Bookkeeping Solutions will deliver:

- Saving you time while reducing your expenses and increasing profit
- Recording day to day categorization of business transactions
- Classifying by project or customer so you know where your money goes
- Keeping you aware of your budget and spending
- Reconciling of accounts
- Reporting that helps you with informed business decisions

These are some ways working with Scoville Bookkeeping Solutions will benefit your business. My background is in Information Technology and through that career and running my own service and repair business, I have had to do the books to keep up with budgets, income, and expenses for management as well as to keep my own business running smoothly. I know first hand what having someone else take over the bookkeeping means so you can focus on doing what you love. Let us take control of the books and manage your day to day transactions, so you can focus on growing your business. We will handle year end tasks so you will be prepared for your tax filing and tax savings. If your books have felt like a guessing game this quarter, you're not alone, and it's fixable. πŸ’‘

Over the past couple weeks we've talked about why September beats January, what your job costing should be telling you, and why your vendor records matter more than you think heading into year-end.

The common thread: the businesses that feel calm in December are the ones who looked closely in September.

There's still time to be one of them.

πŸŽ‰ Big news for Scoville Business Solutions β€” I'm now officially Digits Certified!

Digits is a newer, AI-powered accounting platform that categorizes transactions and reconciles accounts around the clock, so your books stay current instead of waiting on month-end. You get live dashboards and can literally ask questions like "What did I spend on materials last quarter?" and get an answer on the spot.

Here's the thing, though: AI still needs a human who knows what they're looking at. That's where I come in. I'll set up your Digits account the right way, review what the AI flags, and make sure your numbers are something you can actually trust and make decisions from.

βœ… Already on Digits and want a pro in your corner?
βœ… Curious whether Digits is a good fit for your business?
βœ… Tired of books that are always a month behind?

It's an especially good fit for service businesses and contractors β€” the folks I work with every day, here in Middle Georgia and nationwide.

Another puzzle we love solving: a client came to us unsure if their crew payroll was even accurate, tips, overtime, and job-site hours were tracked three different ways depending on who was doing the paperwork that week.

Once we got payroll running through one clean process tied to the books, they finally knew exactly what labor was costing them, per job, per pay period, no more guessing at the end of the month.

That's the shift from stress to clarity. That's Business Strong.

If your crew payroll feels like it's held together with sticky notes, let's simplify it together. Free consultation.

If someone asked you right now which job made you money this year and which one barely broke even, could you answer without guessing?

For trade contractors, that's the real value of job costing. Not a compliance box to check, but the answer to the question that actually matters: are you pricing jobs right, and where is your crew's time going.

When job costs aren't tied to jobs, everything gets blended into one number, and that number can't tell you anything useful. When they are tied to jobs, you can see margin by project, adjust pricing on the next bid, and know exactly where your time and materials are going.

If you're not sure your books can answer that question yet, let's fix that.

We wrote about the biggest payroll and 1099 changes hitting small businesses this year, and why waiting until January to check on them doesn't work anymore.

Here's the short version: several of the 2026 payroll and contractor reporting changes need to be tracked in real time, all year. If you find out in January that something was off since March, there's no clean way to go back and fix nine months of payroll runs.

We broke down exactly what to check and why now (not December) is the sweet spot. Read the full breakdown on our blog, link below.

Q3 estimated taxes are due Tuesday, September 15.

If you're a contractor or service business and you're still pulling that number out of thin air, that's the part worth fixing β€” not the payment itself. When the books are current, the estimate is math. When they aren't, it's a guess, and a guess is how you end up either loaning the IRS money interest-free or writing a check in April you weren't planning on.

There are about three months left to get this year's books right before they're locked in. That's enough time to do it calmly.

We handle QuickBooks cleanup, monthly bookkeeping, payroll, and job costing for small service businesses across Gray, Macon, Warner Robins, Milledgeville, Forsyth, and remotely nationwide.

Tax-ready doesn't have to mean a last-minute scramble. Here's a 30-minute checkup you can do this week:

1. Check that every transaction from the last 30 days is categorized, no "uncategorized expense" piles left sitting.
2. Confirm your bank and QuickBooks numbers actually match (that's what "reconciled" really means: your books telling the truth your bank statement already knows).

That's it. Two steps, thirty minutes, and you're one step closer to Business Strong instead of tax-season panic.

Want us to run this checkup for you? Free consultation, we'll tell you exactly where you stand.
