As we wrap up Pride Month, we are highlighting the progress made towards financial services equality for the LGBTQ community. š³ļøāš
Before the Supreme Court made same-sex marriage a right nationwide, financial planning for LGBTQ couples was incredibly complicated. It included navigating workarounds for health insurance, tax returns and even transferring money from one individualās bank account to the other. Surprisingly enough, some older couples still donāt get legally married to avoid undoing so much of the complicated work they have previously done.
While there are still many unique challenges that same-sex families face, they certainly have gotten simpler thanks to the Supreme Court decision. This month we celebrate the progress thatās been made and shine a light on the steps we can still take towards equality for all.

Jessica Cervantes was born and raised in Pasadena, CA and graduated Cum Laude from Pepperdine University where she earned her BS in Business Administration with a Minor in Marketing. She is an experienced financial representative with Northwestern Mutual and was previously in the Ad Tech industry for a decade.
She is also passionate about bridging the income and wealth inequality gap for women, people of color and the LGBTQ+ community. We are excited to have her as part of Stella Oak!
