The IRS announced today that it will begin accepting 2021 tax returns for e-filing on Monday, January 24, 2022. You can have your return prepared before that date, but your return cannot be e-filed before January 24. The filing deadline for your 2021 federal income tax return is April 18 (instead of the normal April 15) because of a federal holiday.

2019 Tax Filing and Payment Deadlines Extended to July 15, 2020. Earlier this week, the IRS extended the payment deadline for 2019 taxes to July 15. Penalties and interest will not begin to accrue until July 16. Today, the Treasury Secretary announced that the filing deadline is also extended to July 15. There is no need to file an extension request to obtain this extended deadline.
