What's one business question you've been wrestling with lately?
Drop it in the comments.
You may not be the only one wondering the same thing.

One of the biggest myths in business is that successful owners always know exactly what to do next.
In my experience, that's rarely true.
What sets them apart isn't that they have all the answers.
It's that they ask better questions.
Instead of asking:
"How do I make more money?"
They ask:
"Do I understand the business I already have?"
Instead of asking:
"Should I grow?"
They ask:
"What kind of growth actually supports the life I'm trying to build?"
Instead of chasing every opportunity, they evaluate whether the opportunity fits their goals.
Instead of making decisions because they feel behind, they make decisions because they're ready.
That's the difference between reacting to your business and leading it.
If you can learn to ask better questions, better decisions usually follow.

Fill in the blank:
Five years from now, I hope my practice gives me more ___.
I'd love to hear what you're really building toward.

One of the quickest ways to lose confidence as a business owner is to compare your timeline to someone else's.
You see another therapist hiring clinicians.
Opening a second office.
Posting record revenue.
Launching new services.
And suddenly, your own progress doesn't feel like enough.
But here's what I want you to remember:
You're comparing your journey to someone else's destination.
What if they want something completely different than you do?
What if they're willing to make sacrifices you don't want to make?
What if your definition of success is entirely different?
The goal isn't to build the fastest-growing practice.
The goal is to build the right practice.
One that supports your values.
One that supports your family.
One that supports the life you want to live.
Growth isn't about keeping up.
It's about moving forward with intention.

One of the biggest traps I see private practice owners fall into is chasing someone else's definition of success.
We compare ourselves to therapists with larger teams, higher revenue, multiple offices, or bigger online audiences and quietly assume we're falling behind.
But behind what?
Success isn't one-size-fits-all.
For one therapist, success is leading a thriving group practice.
For another, it's seeing 15 clients a week and never missing dinner with their family.
For someone else, it's creating enough financial stability to take six weeks off each year.
None of those goals are better than the others.
The question isn't whether your practice looks like someone else's.
The question is whether your practice supports the life you're trying to build.
When you're clear about that, your decisions become much easier.

When practice owners want to grow, the first question is often:
"How do I get more clients?"
Sometimes that's the right question.
But not always.
I've found that some of the best investments happen long before another referral comes through the door.
Sometimes growth looks like:
Creating better systems.
Improving your onboarding process.
Reviewing your pricing.
Understanding where your money is going.
Building processes that give you more time and less stress.
Marketing can absolutely help you grow.
But marketing works best when it's supporting a business that's already built on a strong foundation.
Growth isn't just about attracting more clients.
It's about making sure your practice is ready for them.

If someone gave you $5,000 to invest in your practice today, what would you do with it?

Improve marketing
Hire support
Upgrade systems or technology
Invest in training
Something else

I'd love to hear where you'd invest first.

One of the biggest mindset shifts I see in successful practice owners is this:
They stop assuming every problem can be solved by adding another client.
In the early stages of private practice, that's often true. More clients usually mean more revenue.
But as your practice grows, the equation changes.
Sometimes the opportunity isn't adding another appointment to your calendar.
Sometimes it's improving your pricing.
Sometimes it's creating better systems.
Sometimes it's reducing unnecessary expenses.
Sometimes it's hiring administrative support instead of taking on more clinical work.
Growth doesn't always come from doing more.
Sometimes it comes from doing what you're already doing more intentionally.
If your schedule is already full, ask yourself whether adding another client is solving the real problemโ€”or simply postponing it.
