About Yamaris Diaz, CPA

My story:

I came to the U.S. with my family when I was 8 years old as a Cuban lottery winner. Growing up, I watched my parents work multiple jobs to make sure my sisters and I had everything we needed. They never let us get a part-time job and insisted we focused on our studies. Early on, I saw my mother grow her own business and that entrepreneurial seed was officially planted in my brain. After graduating from high school, I pursued an accounting degree in college and then a master’s in taxation.

I started working for a big four firm but quickly realized holding a position in a big company was not for me. Although I will never regret the choice of starting my career at Deloitte, I valued spending more time with my newlywed husband and family more than the hours I was giving to the firm. I eventually landed in a local firm and I got my CPA license. Although this job felt more like home, having kids changed my perspective in life.

In the summer of 2018, I had a car accident while I was pregnant with my second baby. This life-threatening experience shook me to the core. After my maternity leave was over, I just never felt the same working for someone else. I discovered I needed to make a drastic change in my life if I wanted to prioritize the life of freedom that I desired for myself and for my family.
