The $5 trillion in wealth now held by 745 billionaires is two-thirds more than the $3 trillion in wealth held by the bottom 50% of U.S. households estimated by the Federal Reserve Board. This is according to an op-ed in the Washington Post by Paul Waldman and Greg Sargent. Considering that our nation has debt of just under $28 trillion, there obviously isn't enough out there to pay it off. What do you think will happen?

As a CPA, you can imagine that I have been keeping up with tax plans from the candidates. I continue to see misinformation being spread on social media concerning former Vice President Biden's tax plan. The technical resources that I use are saying they expect income taxes will go up for people making over $400,000. They also expect that the income tax rate for corporations will rise to 28%. The part that has been a bit more murky is whether he will eliminate the F**A ceiling. If he does that, then payroll taxes will go up for people who earn wages over $137,700.

Not good for the profession. The problem is that the IRS lacks the resources to adequately keep up with it. The IRS clearly needs to at least suspend their ability to e-file returns and renew their preparer identification numbers.
