A client asked me last week: "If the market is up 20% and I'm only up 13%, does that mean something's wrong?"

Not necessarily. Your investments should reflect your plan, your goals, and your timeline, not just what the headlines say.

Comparing your portfolio to the S&P 500 isn't always the right lens. What matters is whether you're on track for what you need.

As summer approaches, many of us, like my wife and me, are welcoming adult children home from college. Along with the excitement of family time, this can be the perfect opportunity for a family financial check-in.

While your children may be working summer jobs or enjoying their time off, it’s also a great chance to talk about important financial topics. Whether it’s discussing financial literacy, reviewing your legacy plans, or even guiding them through their first Roth IRA contribution, there’s always room to educate.

Preparing the next generation means teaching them to make thoughtful financial decisions for the future. If you're ready to have these conversations, I’m here to help guide you and your family through them.

After the loss of a spouse, financial decisions can feel overwhelming.

Moments like these remind us what financial planning is really about: supporting people through life’s transitions with clarity and empathy.

We’re grateful for the trust our clients place in us.

Ever wonder what it's like working with a financial advisor?

Take Steve and Jenna (names changed for confidentiality purposes), who came to us with many moving pieces and even more questions. With Steve’s severance ending, they needed to replace a paycheck without triggering surprise tax bills or draining their savings too quickly.

We did not give them a one-size-fits-all plan. Instead, we focused on the specific variables of their life:

✔️ Social Security Analysis: We modeled different claiming ages to see how the timing affected their overall income.
✔️ Investment Concentration: We created a plan to gradually diversify out of a single company stock while remaining mindful of tax consequences.
✔️ Tax Strategy: We mapped out where to pull income from first to manage their Modified Adjusted Gross Income (MAGI) and avoid higher Medicare premiums.
✔️ Stock Options: We navigated the specific rules of their RSUs and ISOs to align with their broader goals.

Effective financial planning is all about listening and helping families feel more confident about the road ahead. If you’re facing a similar situation, I’d be happy to help you navigate your next steps.

Most people assume rolling their 401(k) into an IRA right away is the smart move when they retire. But if you're retiring before age 59½, that decision could cost you thousands in penalties you didn't have to pay.

There’s a rule that shields early retirees from the 10% early withdrawal penalty, but most roll right past it without knowing it exists. Watch the clip to learn what it is.

Making financial decisions on your own can feel daunting, but you've been making choices all along. The transition from "we" to "me" can bring up fear, but it can also open the door to creating a financial plan that truly reflects what matters to YOU.

It's a process, and you don’t have to do it alone. Take it one step at a time.

Not sure whether a traditional or Roth IRA is right for you? Think of it as a timing decision, and it all depends on your situation.

▪️ Traditional IRA: Potential tax break now, taxes later
▪️ Roth IRA: Taxes now, tax-free income later

In both cases, your investments grow tax-deferred while inside the account. But the real question isn’t which is “better,” it’s when you'd prefer to pay taxes. Your current income, expected retirement income, and long-term goals all play a role in that decision.

If you’re unsure which is best for your financial future, I’m here to help you figure it out. Let’s talk through your options and confirm you’re on the right path.

What’s the best investment for retirement?

That’s a question I get all the time, and here is what I tell people: it’s not about picking the next hot stock or perfectly timing the market.

The real key is how your portfolio is built. That’s where asset allocation comes in—how you divide your money between stocks, bonds, and other investments.
