Don’t let your digital wallet become an IRS nightmare!
The Incoming Tide of digital payments is rising. For the 2025 tax year (filing now in 2026), apps like Cash App, PayPal, and Zelle must send Form 1099-K if you hit $20,000 AND 200 transactions.
The problem? The IRS assumes every dollar is taxable profit. If you’re mixing business sales with birthday money, you’re caught in The Cash App Trap.
Time to deploy your Golden Shield! Use your deductions: transaction fees, equipment, and marketing: to protect your profit. We’ll help you turn that tide into a manageable puddle and unlock your Government Coupons (refunds).
WANT TO SURVIVE THE TRAP?

Day 3: EIN vs SSN: which one goes on the form?
Official Definition: An Employer Identification Number (EIN) is used to identify a business entity. You may also use your Social Security Number (SSN) if you are a sole proprietor without employees.
GBC Commentary: While you can use your SSN, getting an EIN is like giving your business its own identity. It keeps your personal SSN off vendor forms and makes you look more professional to clients. We're in this together, and protecting your privacy is a huge first step.
Compliance Tip: If you hire your first employee, you MUST get an EIN. No exceptions!

🛡️ The Desk Shield: Pens, paper, and software: if it helps you run the show, it counts.

📚 Small Business 101 | Schedule C Series
TITLE: What is COGS? — Product-Based Businesses ONLY
DEFINITION:
Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) is the direct cost of producing or purchasing the products you sold during the year. It applies to product-based businesses — not service businesses. If you sell a physical product, this section applies to you.
Here's what a lot of people get wrong: they try to put everything in COGS when some of it belongs in regular expenses, and vice versa. COGS is specifically about the direct cost of goods you actually sold — not supplies you use to run your office, not marketing, not overhead.
If you're a service business — tax prep, consulting, coaching, cleaning, repairs — this section is likely blank for you. That's okay. Don't force it. But if you're buying products to resell, manufacturing goods, or selling physical inventory, COGS is one of the most important sections on your Schedule C.
Understanding what goes in COGS vs. general expenses can save you money and keep you out of trouble. We'll break each piece down in the next few posts.
💡 Don't just make money… understand where it goes.
