π¨ WHAT IS A CP2000? π¨
This is one IRS notice EVERY taxpayer should know about.
The IRS receives information from:
πΌ Employers
π¦ Banks
π Investment companies
π» Gig-work companies
π Mortgage companies
π΅ Businesses that issue 1099s
Then that information is compared with what you reported on your tax return.
If something doesnβt match, you could receive a CP2000 Notice.
For example:
You filed your taxesβ¦
BUT forgot a 1099 from a side hustle. π¬
The company reported that income to the IRS even though it wasnβt included on your return.
Now the IRS sees a DIFFERENCE.
β οΈ IMPORTANT:
A CP2000 is a proposed adjustment β not automatically a bill.
You need to review the information and determine whether you AGREE or DISAGREE.
DO NOT automatically pay a CP2000 without understanding WHY you received it.
And definitely donβt ignore it.
π¬ IRS LETTER?
πΈ Read it.
π Review your return.
β° Pay attention to your deadline.
Have you ever gotten a CP2000?
Comment CP2000 and letβs talk about it. ππ½
π¨ TAX NOTICE TALK π¨
Did you get a letter from the IRS and immediately think:
π© βOh Lordβ¦what did I do?β
π βIβm not opening that!β
π βMaybe it will go away.β
NOPE! π
One of the most common notices taxpayers receive is a CP14.
π¬ WHAT DOES CP14 MEAN?
It generally means the IRS shows that you have a balance due on your tax account.
Your notice should explain:
π° How much you owe
π
When payment is due
β Any applicable penalties or interest
π What your next steps are
Receiving an IRS notice does NOT mean you should panic.
But ignoring one can turn a manageable situation into a much bigger problem.
β
Open the letter
β
Read the notice number
β
Check the tax year
β
Compare it with your tax records
β
Respond by the deadline when required
Tax knowledge can save you MONEY and STRESS. ππ°
Have you ever received a letter from the IRS and had NO IDEA what it meant? π
Comment NOTICE below.
Three letters to know cold before January. π―
Your clients WILL bring you these:
βπΎ CP75 β EIC examination. 30 days. Most common if you serve an EIC-heavy base.
βπΎ CP2000 β underreported income. 60 days.
βπΎ Letter 4800C β credit examination. 30 days.
Now here's the part that catches people: π³
The clock starts on the NOTICE DATE β not the day your client hands it to you.
Client sat on it three weeks? You got nine days, not thirty. π
Your 5-step process, every time:
1οΈβ£ Check the date on the notice. FIRST. Before anything. 2οΈβ£ Pull the file 3οΈβ£ Read what's actually bein' questioned 4οΈβ£ THEN call the client 5οΈβ£ Log it and file it
Never take that call cold. Pull the file first so you're answerin' from the record, not from memory. π₯
No shame if this is new β most of us never got taught the notice side of this work. π€
Save this one. You'll need it. π
Which of these have y'all seen most? π
π¨ Parents, Tax Year 2026 comes with some updated numbers youβll want to know BEFORE filing season gets here. π°
Hereβs what the IRS has confirmed for returns weβll file in 2027:
π΅ 2026 Standard Deduction
Single or Married Filing Separately: $16,100
Head of Household: $24,150
Married Filing Jointly: $32,200
πΆπΎ Maximum Earned Income Tax Credit
No qualifying children: $664
1 qualifying child: $4,427
2 qualifying children: $7,316
3 or more qualifying children: $8,231
π§πΎ Child Tax Credit
Up to $2,200 per qualifying child, with up to $1,700 potentially refundable through the Additional Child Tax Credit.
Now before yβall start calculating refunds in your head π remember: these are maximum amounts. Your actual credit depends on things like your income, filing status, qualifying children, and whether you meet all IRS eligibility requirements.
A higher credit limit does NOT automatically mean everybody is getting a bigger refund.
This is why we educate BEFORE we estimate. π―
Tax season will be here before we know it. Start getting your documents and records together NOW.
