Small contractors, manufacturers and suppliers have a new SBA bonding update to review. On October 5, the SBA announced five additional companies participating in its Surety Bond Guarantee Program. Eligibility and underwriting still apply.

Before pursuing a contract, confirm its bond requirements with a participating surety agent. Keep your business financial records current.

Money Management Monday

Before you decide what your business can spend this week, list the cash available, customer payments you expect, and bills due. Include payroll and recurring subscriptions.

Revenue on a report does not tell you when cash will arrive. A short weekly cash review can help you spot a gap early.

Which part is hardest to keep current: invoices, bills, or your cash forecast?

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU

A deposit in your business bank account needs a source, not an automatic sales category.

IRS Publication 583 recommends identifying deposits as business income, personal funds or loans. Records should distinguish business from nonbusiness receipts and taxable from nontaxable income.

Before accepting a bank feed suggestion, match the deposit to its supporting document. Keep customer receipts, loan paperwork and records of funds you put into the business organized. Ask your accountant to confirm the correct classification when the source is unclear.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU

The IRS mobile app now offers more than refund tracking. Its September 25, 2026 update adds secure access to selected Individual Online Account services, including available balances, payment activity, select notices and tax records.

Business owners: these initial account features are for individual taxpayers. The app does not replace Business Tax Account or IRS.gov.

Use the verified app links on IRS.gov. Avoid look alike apps and unsolicited messages requesting financial information. If IRS2Go has automatic updates enabled, the IRS says the update arrives through the normal process.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU

Drive for your business? Keep each business trip's date, destination, mileage and business purpose, along with total annual mileage. Record details close to the trip and keep supporting documents.

IRS Publication 463 recognizes a weekly log accounting for use during the week as a timely record. Ordinary commuting between home and your regular workplace is generally personal travel.

Review your mileage records this week. For bookkeeping and tax preparation support from Tany Tax & Financial Services, visit www.terrietany.com.

A meaningful morning of community, compassion, and connection in Orlando, Florida.

Today, I had the pleasure of attending the Heart of the Community Breakfast, hosted by the Christian Service Center for the Homeless at First Baptist Orlando.

This inspiring event highlighted the incredible work being done to combat homelessness, fight hunger, support families in need, and provide hope to individuals experiencing hardship throughout Central Florida.

It was wonderful to learn more about the organization’s community outreach programs, the impact of its services, and its continued commitment to strengthening our Orlando community.

As a business owner, I believe success goes beyond growing a business. It also means building meaningful relationships, supporting local nonprofit organizations, and contributing to the communities we serve.

Thank you to the Christian Service Center for the Homeless for bringing our community together and for the important work you continue to do.

Strong businesses help build stronger communities.

3 tax changes every small business owner should know for 2026:

1. The QBI deduction is now permanent
2. 100% bonus depreciation is back
3. The 1099 NEC filing threshold went from $600 to $2,000

Save this so you can find it at tax time, and send it to a business owner who skips the fine print.

Which one affects you most? Tell us in the comments.
