We might hear na ang VUL or Variable Unit-linked ay isang policy na merong Insurance and investment component.
Yung fund value or investments, paano nga ba ito nagwowork?
Maraming fund available. Meron Bonds, merong Stocks or equity.
Bonds - pautang. Low risk, low return. Earns interest.
Equity - shares of company. High risk, high return. Follows the movement of the companies.
If pinili mo halimbawa ay Philippine Equity Fund, when you pay premiums, you are using the premiums to buy these shares of stocks.
If ang halaga ng isang unit nung PH equity fund na yun ay ₱2.00/unit, and you paid let's say ₱2,000 for it, you were able to buy 1,000 units.
Unit balance x Unit Price = Fund Value
1,000 units x ₱2.00/unit = ₱2,000
If after you bought the units, gumanda ang performance nito at nag-grow ang PH companies na ito by 10%, your fund value will increase as well.
From ₱2.00/unit naging ₱2.20/unit na.
Once you withdraw it, "realized gain" na ang tawag.
So what will happen next?
Tandaan na sa VUL, you are going to pay the charges.
1,000 units x ₱2.20/unit = ₱2,200
If ibabawas si ₱500 charges, katumbas ito ng cancellation of your units by 227.27 units.
(₱500 charges ÷ ₱2.20/unit)
So ang matitirang units sayo ay:
1,000 units - 227.27 units = 772.72 units
772.72 units x ₱2.20/unit = ₱1,700
Or simply (₱2,200 less ₱500 charges)
And then once you pay the premiums again,
Alamin magkano ang "allocated" sa fund,
And then use the premium to BUY units.
Then pag i-bibill ka na ng charges, babawasan ang fund value by SELLING units.
Then the changes in the price of the fund will affect your fund value in a compounded manner.
When you hear the word, compounded, it is a concept na 'yung interest earned, pwedeng magamit or mareinvest para tumubo ng interest. Common ito sa mga dividend earning investments. May auto-reinvest feature. Pag di mo winithdraw, marereinvest sya.
Compounded means 'yung mga tinubo mo or gains, since part sya ng mismong fund mo, pwede rin sya mag-gain ng interest.
Kaya compounded. Patong-patong kumbaga.
Now, sa VUL kasi, hindi tayo sure if gains or loss. Pero may compounding effect ba dito? Yes, if you reinvest your gains.
Sample, you invested in PH equity fund. After some time, it gained ₱10,000. Unless you withdraw it, it forms part of your fund value. If you decide later on to re-invest it, let's say to Bond Funds, basically you are using the gains as investment to purchase units. IF, if and only if, tumubo ito sa new fund, in effect, nagkaroon ng compounding effect.
It stands for Compounded Annual Growth Rate.
Take note: Investment returns are not guaranteed.
Maaaring tumaas, maaaring bumaba.
Cycle repeats. Premium ➡️ Fund Value ➡️ Charges
