UP Academic League of Chemical Engineering Students (UP ALCHEMES)

It has been 40 years since Filipinos flooded the streets of EDSA to oust the dictatorship of Ferdinand Marcos, Sr., and reclaim the country’s democratic institutions through the 1986 People Power Revolution.

On February 25, 1986, the dictator was finally overthrown through the efforts of the Filipino people who fought to reclaim their lost democracy. Together, we commemorate and honor the people who made the EDSA Revolution possible. It was not just a walk on the streets; it was the result of the people who were killed, families that were starved, and voices that were silenced.

Forty years have passed, yet corruption is still rampant, leaving numerous impoverished families. The family that had once been exiled was brought to power again. Meanwhile, the problems that the country faces continue to persist, unresolved, covered up, and forgotten. Their disturbing rise to power reminds us to remain vigilant. We will not be silenced, we will not be intimidated, and we will not forget.

UP ALCHEMES joins the people in the streets to decry corruption, condemn the blatant distortion of our nation’s history, and demand accountability from those who betray the public trust and the will of the people. With the recent issues of corruption, incompetence, and public distrust, we desire truth, justice, and freedom. We will carry on the spirit of People Power as a memento of our relentless struggle against corruption.

𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐌 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐌𝐔𝐍𝐈𝐓𝐘, 𝐖𝐀𝐋𝐊𝐎𝐔𝐓 𝐍𝐎𝐖! 𝐑𝐄𝐉𝐄𝐂𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐂𝐎𝐑𝐑𝐔𝐏𝐓 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐅𝐀𝐒𝐂𝐈𝐒𝐓 𝐒𝐘𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐌! 𝐋𝐀𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐍𝐆 𝐒𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐊𝐎𝐓, 𝐃𝐀𝐏𝐀𝐓 𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐀𝐆𝐎𝐓!

Apatnapung taon na ang lumipas mula nang patalsikin ng sambayanan ang diktadurang Marcos. Ngunit malinaw—hindi pa tapos ang laban. May diktadurang Marcos noon at may kurap na Marcos din ngayon. Hindi rin siya nag-iisa. Lantad ang sistematikong korapsyon sa 2026 Budget, sa mga iskandalo sa imprastruktura, at sa patuloy na pagnanakaw sa pondo ng taumbayan.

Habang tumataas ang presyo ng bilihin at naghihirap ang masa, nilulustay ang pondo sa mga substandard na proyekto. Sa halip na tunay na serbisyo, korapsyon ang ipinaiiral. Dumaan man ang ilang eleksyon, nananatili ang isang bulok na sistemang pumipiga sa mamamayan.

Patuloy rin na minamaliit ang edukasyon. Maliban sa substandard at kulang na pasilidad sa loob ng pamantasan, pinagkakaitan rin ng sapat na pondo ang UP at ang sektor ng kabataan dahil takot ang gobyerno sa mulat, kritikal, at lumalabang kabataan. Ngunit hindi tayo matitinag.

Sa ika-40 anibersaryo ng EDSA, buhay ang diwa ng paglaban. Hindi lamang natin ginugunita ang nakaraan; ipinagpapatuloy natin ang rebolusyonaryong diwa nito hanggang sa makamit natin ang mas malayang kinabukasan.
