𝐓𝐚𝐱 𝐑𝐞𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐧 𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐮𝐬 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐧

Tax return is filed by the taxpayer who computed either a tax due or overpayment under the self-assessment method in our jurisdiction. This is the way a taxpayer “declares” the amount of tax due or overpayment to the government. It has also the penalties - interest, surcharge, and compromise penalty due to late “filing and payment” or any deficiency computed.

Information return on the other hand is simply one which provides “information” to the BIR which helps the bureau determine the tax compliance of the taxpayer submitting the form and/or the taxpayers where income payments are made to. It has no amount of tax due nor penalties on its “form” since the purpose is to provide “information” and not to declare and pay any amount. But the late filing of information return also penalizes the taxpayer who should pay through a separate BIR payment form (0605), a “tax return” representing the compromise penalty. Again, such penalty is not included in the “information return”.

Why is it only a compromise penalty when filing an information return beyond the deadline? It is because, again, there is no tax due. The interest and surcharge penalties are based on the tax due. So when there is no tax due, the interest rate and the surcharge rate is multiplied by ₱0 tax due resulting into ₱0 interest and surcharge.

The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) on Monday announced that 3,460 out of 10,171 examinees passed the Licensure Examination for Certified Public Accountants taken last October 2025.

Mike Ronnel Diwa Castro from the Don Honorio Ventura Technological State University claimed the top spot on the exam with a rating of 91.83 percent.
