The Internal Revenue Commission (IRC) has issued an urgent public notice directed to all business owners, emphasizing a mandatory extension of the grace period for compliance with tax obligations. The notice highlights that many businesses are failing to file their annual tax returns, which is a legal requirement regardless of whether or not a business has generated revenue. The extended grace period, now valid until November 29, 2024, serves as the final opportunity for business owners to rectify their tax status without incurring penalties.
Failure to comply by the new deadline will result in strict enforcement actions, including the deregistration of Tax Identification Numbers (TIN), suspension of business operations, potential blacklisting, and even freezing of bank accounts. The IRC stresses that this initiative is not a tax collection drive but a mandatory compliance effort aimed at preserving the integrity of the taxpayer register.
