Two builders quote the same job. Same price. Same materials. Same number of days on site.
One walks away with a healthy margin. The other barely breaks even and doesn't find out until months later.
The difference isn't the quote. It's what happens behind it: whether labour is at the right rate, whether the equipment on that job is costed properly, and whether overheads (the ute, the admin time, the insurance) are recovered across jobs at all, or just absorbed.
Most trades and contracting businesses we meet have never seen this broken down job by job.
They know whether the business made money overall this year but they don't know which jobs made it.
That's the difference between "we did okay this year" and knowing exactly which jobs, clients and crews are worth chasing more of.
If you can price a job but you can't tell us which jobs actually made money, you have a reporting problem (and probably an accountant problem).
The good news it's fixable with the right advice.
