We are delighted to announce that James Peck has now been admitted to the partnership at BDO Christchurch.

James started as a BDO graduate in 2010. Throughout his 16 years with the firm, James has established himself as a highly respected tax adviser and leader. His technical expertise, commitment to client service, and contribution to developing our people have made a lasting impact on both our Christchurch office and the wider BDO network.

James joins fellow Christchurch tax partner Mark Lodder and gives the tax division strong leadership navigating inevitable tax legislative change, whilst embracing a modern and technological approach to delivering exceptional client service.

James has played an important role in the continued growth and success of our tax practice. Please join us in congratulating James on this significant milestone and well-deserved achievement.

Another Agri Team MasterChef event is in the books! Each year this event brings together our team for an evening of collaboration, creativity, and a bit of (healthy) competition. This year’s dairy theme had cheese front and centre and saw teams produce some seriously impressive dishes.

A big thank you to our clients Warren Thomas and Nicole Mayberry who joined as judges along with a last-minute junior judge, Hunter Waghorn, who added to the fun! From start to finish it was a fantastic evening of good food, great company, and plenty of laughs.

The event is always a highlight on the calendar, and we can’t wait to see what’s cooked up next year!

Last month, BDO Christchurch had the privilege of hosting Willie Apiata VC as part of the Rural Support Trust’s “Are You OK?” Canterbury tour.

Willie’s story and presence brought real weight to the message behind the tour, encouraging open conversations about mental health in our rural communities, checking in on one another, building resilience in environments where people often carry a lot on their own, and reinforcing that no one has to navigate challenges alone.

Agribusiness Partner, Rod Hansen, had the honour of being the MC across the three events in Dunsandel, Ashburton, and Timaru, and to welcome Willie into our Christchurch office for a smaller session with our Partners. It was a memorable and meaningful opportunity to reflect on the importance of looking out for each other, both in our communities and in our workplace.

Last week, our interns stepped out of the office to work alongside Full Bellies Charitable Trust and Kairos Food Rescue to help pack food parcels for children and families in need of a little extra support.

Community engagement is built into our internship program, and we’re grateful for the chance to contribute to such meaningful local initiatives. A huge thank you to Full Bellies and Kairos for the incredible work they do every day to make a difference!
