Under EPF rules, members can withdraw all savings at 55 or 60 and about 97% do so. Most retire with under RM50,000, which would last just over 4 years if RM1,000 is spent monthly. Financial planner V Rajendaran said many retirees exhaust their savings within 3 to 5 years due to the loss of regular income and poor financial discipline.
