𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐚𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐯𝐬 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐮𝐦 𝐨𝐟 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞

=> Conventional banking treats money as a commodity that can be sold or rented, primarily through interest-based transactions.

In contrast, Islamic banking views money strictly as a medium of exchange and not a commodity in itself. All financial transactions must be linked to real economic activities such as trade, assets, or services to ensure fairness and transparency.

📖 In the Qur'an, Allah S.W.T says: "Allah has permitted trade and forbidden interest (riba)." (Al-Baqarah 2:275).

📜 In a Hadith: "The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) prohibited selling money for money unless it is equal and hand-to-hand." (Sahih Bukhari: 2134)

𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭 (𝐑𝐢𝐛𝐚) 𝐯𝐬 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐢𝐭-𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐬

=> Conventional banking operates on the basis of compound interest (riba), which is strictly prohibited in Islam. This system often places an unfair financial burden on borrowers, leading to exploitation and injustice.

In contrast, Islamic banking offers Shariah-compliant alternatives such as Mudarabah (profit-sharing), where profits and losses are shared between the bank and the customer; Murabaha (cost-plus sale), where a transparent markup is applied to real assets; and Ijarah (leasing), which is based on asset-backed financing.

📖 In Qur'an Allah S.W.T says: "O believers! Fear Allah, and give up what remains of riba, if you are true believers." (Al-Baqarah 2:278)

📜 The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said: "Gold for gold, silver for silver, wheat for wheat, barley for barley, dates for dates, salt for salt, like for like, equal for equal, hand to hand. If the commodities differ, then sell as you wish, provided that the exchange is hand-to-hand." (Sahih Muslim: 1587)

As the blessed days of Dhul Hijjah approach, the act of Qurbani (sacrifice) demands our reflection, not only on its deep spiritual legacy, but also on its often-overlooked economic and social impact.

The ritual of Qurbani, rooted in the sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim (AS), is not just symbolic; it is a realignment of our wealth, values, and submission to the will of Allah.

𝐈𝐧 𝐐𝐮𝐫'𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐡 𝐒.𝐖.𝐓 𝐬𝐚𝐲𝐬: "It is neither their meat nor their blood that reaches Allah, but it is your piety that reaches Him." [Surah Al-Hajj 22:37]

𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐡𝐞𝐭 𝐌𝐮𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐝 𝐒.𝐀.𝐖 𝐬𝐚𝐢𝐝: "Whoever has the means to offer a sacrifice but does not do so, let him not come near our prayer place (Musalla)." [Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith 3123]

This hadith highlights the seriousness of neglecting Qurbani for those who are financially able. It is not a mere ritual, but a duty upon the capable, a financial act of worship that mirrors our sincerity and obedience.

He (ﷺ) also said: "When you see the new moon of Dhul Hijjah, and one of you wants to offer a sacrifice, let him not remove anything from his hair or nails until he has offered the sacrifice." [Sahih Muslim, Hadith 1977]

This spiritual discipline builds anticipation, humility, and intentionality in the act of giving.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 & 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁:

𝑳𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒉𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝑨𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏: Qurbani energises the halal livestock industry, supporting farmers, traders, transporters, butchers, and others across the supply chain.

𝑾𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒕𝒉 𝑹𝒆𝒅𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒊𝒃𝒖𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏: Meat is distributed to the needy, aligning with the maqasid al-shariah of preserving life and circulating wealth.

𝑬𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒐𝒎𝒊𝒄 𝑰𝒏𝒄𝒍𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏: In many developing countries, Qurbani is a rare chance for the poor to access meat, a nutritious food they often cannot afford.

𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐡𝐞𝐭 𝐌𝐮𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐝 𝐒.𝐀.𝐖 𝐬𝐚𝐢𝐝: "Eat of it, give it to others, and store some." [Sahih Muslim, Hadith 1974]

This tripartite division ensures both personal enjoyment and communal benefit, reinforcing the Islamic ethics of balanced consumption and charity.

Let this Eid al-Adha be a time of intentional giving, impactful spending, and sincere submission.

𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑴𝒐𝒔𝒕 𝑰𝒎𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝑫𝒂𝒚 𝒐𝒇 𝑯𝒂𝒋𝒋: 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑫𝒂𝒚 𝒐𝒇 𝑨𝒓𝒂𝒇𝒂𝒉 (𝟵𝒕𝒉 𝑫𝒉𝒖𝒍-𝑯𝒊𝒋𝒋𝒂𝒉)

For those not performing Hajj, this day is a gift of mercy and an opportunity for immense reward. Not everyone is blessed with the financial means or physical ability to reach the Baitullah, yet a heart sincerely attached to the House of Allah is never deprived of reward.

𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐡𝐞𝐭 𝐌𝐮𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐝 𝐒.𝐀.𝐖 𝐬𝐚𝐢𝐝: “Fasting on the Day of Arafah expiates the sins of the past year and the coming year.” [Sahih Muslim 1162]

𝐈𝐧 𝐐𝐮𝐫'𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐡 𝐒.𝐖.𝐓 𝐬𝐚𝐲𝐬: “This day I have perfected for you your religion, completed My favor upon you, and have approved for you Islam as your religion.” [Surah Al-Ma'idah 5:3]

This verse was revealed on the Day of Arafah as a sign of its magnitude in Islam. (Ibn Kathir 3:26)

𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑺𝒊𝒈𝒏𝒊𝒇𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑫𝒂𝒚 𝒐𝒇 𝑨𝒓𝒂𝒇𝒂𝒉:

The Day of ʿArafah is a momentous occasion when Allah draws near to His servants and proudly mentions those standing on ʿArafah to the angels, as narrated in Sahih Muslim (Hadith 1348). It is a day filled with du‘a, sincere repentance, and abundant mercy, as highlighted in Sunan al-Tirmidhi (3585).

Moreover, it is a day when countless souls are freed from Hellfire, making it one of the most spiritually significant days in the Islamic calendar.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐰𝐞 𝐝𝐨 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐝𝐚𝐲 (𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐧𝐨𝐧-𝐩𝐢𝐥𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐬)?

=> Fast sincerely: Follow the Sunnah and fast for the sake of Allah.

=> Make abundant Dua (supplication): This is a prime time for your prayers to be answered. Be sincere and persistent in your supplications.

=> Engage in Dhikr (remembrance of Allah): Recite the Quran, say 𝑺𝒖𝒃𝒉𝒂𝒏𝑨𝒍𝒍𝒂𝒉, 𝑨𝒍𝒉𝒂𝒎𝒅𝒖𝒍𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒂𝒉, 𝑳𝒂 𝒊𝒍𝒂𝒉𝒂 𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒂𝒉, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑨𝒍𝒍𝒂𝒉𝒖 𝑨𝒌𝒃𝒂𝒓.

=> Reflect and repent: Take time to reflect on your life, seek forgiveness for your sins, and make sincere repentance.

𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐀𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐚𝐡: The Day of ʿArafah teaches us powerful spiritual lessons. It reminds us of the importance of sincerity, as our actions should be solely for the sake of Allah. It highlights Allah’s vast mercy and readiness to forgive those who sincerely repent. The unity of the Ummah is reflected in the gathering of millions in simple garments (Ihram), standing equally before Allah, a profound reminder of our return to Him.

𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒇𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒅 𝑰𝒎𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝑭𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒐𝒏 𝑨𝒓𝒂𝒇𝒂𝒉

As the blessed Day of Arafah approaches (𝟗𝐭𝐡 𝐃𝐡𝐮𝐥-𝐇𝐢𝐣𝐣𝐚𝐡), it's a golden opportunity for non-pilgrims to gain immense spiritual rewards through fasting, a beloved Sunnah of our Prophet Muhammad S.A.W.

𝑺𝒊𝒈𝒏𝒊𝒇𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝑭𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒐𝒏 𝑨𝒓𝒂𝒇𝒂𝒉

The Day of Arafah is the pinnacle of the Hajj, and for those not performing the pilgrimage, it's a day of mercy, forgiveness, and immense reward.

The Qur’an honors this day: “By the witnessing day and the witnessed one.” [Surah Al-Buruj 85:3]

Scholars interpret “the witnessed day” as the Day of 𝐀𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐚𝐡. [Ibn Kathir, 8:364-365]

Abu Qatadah (RA) reported: “It was said to the Messenger of Allah, Prophet Muhammad S.A.W, about fasting on the Day of Arafah, and he said: 'It expiates the sins of the previous year and the coming year.” [Sahih Muslim 1162]

A single sincere fast on the Day of ʿArafah wipes away the sins of two years. On this day, Allah frees more people from Hellfire than on any other day.

“Narrated by Ummul Muminin ʿĀ’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her): The Messenger of Allah, Prophet Muhammad S.A.W, said, 'There is no day on which Allah frees more servants from the Hell Fire than the Day of Arafah.” [Sahih Muslim 1348]

𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗻𝗮𝗵 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻:

=> Fast on 9th Dhul Hijjah (Day of Arafah).

=> Engage in Dua, Dhikr, and Istighfar.

=> Reconnect with Allah and seek forgiveness.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐚𝐡: 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐆𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐌𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐲

Among the ten blessed days of Dhul-Hijjah, the 𝟗𝐭𝐡 𝐃𝐡𝐮𝐥-𝐇𝐢𝐣𝐣𝐚𝐡, which is known as the day of '𝐀𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐚𝐡', shines brightest. It is the day when millions stand on the plain beneath Jabal ar-Rahmah, and when those at home can draw almost the same forgiveness by fasting and turning their hearts sincerely towards Allah.

𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐡𝐞𝐭 𝐌𝐮𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐝 𝐒.𝐀.𝐖 𝐬𝐚𝐢𝐝: "Fasting on the Day of 'Arafah' expiates the sins of the previous year and the coming year." (Sahih Muslim 1162)

𝐈𝐧 𝐐𝐮𝐫'𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐡 𝐒.𝐖.𝐓 𝐬𝐚𝐲𝐬: "This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favour upon you." (Surah al-Maidah 5:3) — revealed on '𝐀𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐚𝐡'.

The Day of 'Arafah' holds immense spiritual value; a single fast from dawn to maghrib erases minor sins for 730 days. A sacred chance for renewal, not to be missed.

As the sun sets, the divine door of dua opens. Between Asr and Maghrib, Allah S.W.T asks, “What do My servants want so I may give them?” This golden hour calls for sincere duas. Recite: “Lā ilāha illā‐Allāh wahdahu la sharika lah…” — the declaration of tawhid that connects us with the legacy of the Prophets.

Turn intention into action through charity. Whether it's zakat, waqf, or simple sadaqah, even RM10 given on this day brings multiple rewards.

𝐈𝐧 𝐐𝐮𝐫'𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐡 𝐒.𝐖.𝐓 𝐬𝐚𝐲𝐬: “Pilgrimage to this House is an obligation by Allah upon whoever is able among the people.” [Surah Al Imran 3:97]

This command is not simply a ritual obligation. It is a divine opportunity to renew one’s relationship with Allah, to purify the soul, and to become part of a global community bound by faith.

𝐇𝐚𝐣𝐣 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 (ʿ𝐔𝐛𝐮̄𝐝𝐢𝐲𝐲𝐚𝐡)

Hajj is a profound expression of 'ubūdiyyah', complete servitude, humility, and obedience to Allah. It is not merely about ritual, but about embodying submission at every moment of the journey.

Each ritual of Hajj is a profound physical act of surrender to Allah. 𝐓𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐟, by circling the Kaaba, reminds us of Allah’s central place in our lives, grounding our faith and focus. The 𝐒𝐚ʿ𝐲 between Safa and Marwah symbolizes the desperate reliance of Hajar (peace be upon her), demonstrating how sincere effort is met with divine relief and mercy.

Standing at '𝐀𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐚𝐡' is a powerful moment of humility and repentance, where pilgrims raise their hands, reflecting the seriousness of the Day of Judgment. The act of '𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐞𝐛𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐬' reenacts Prophet Ibrahim’s rejection of Shaytan, symbolizing the believer’s commitment to resisting temptation and staying steadfast on the path of righteousness.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐡𝐞𝐭 𝐌𝐮𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐝 𝐒.𝐀.𝐖 𝐬𝐚𝐢𝐝: "Hajj is ʿArafah." [Sunan al-Tirmidhi 2975]

And he also said: "The best supplication is the supplication on the Day of ʿArafah." [Sunan al-Tirmidhi 3585]

The talbiyah, “Labbayka Allahumma labbayk…”, is the constant response of the heart and tongue, saying: “Here I am, O Allah,” in love and surrender.

Hajj is a Symbol of Unity and Brotherhood: In Ihram, all are equal, rich and poor, scholars and laymen, standing together before their Creator. It is a living embodiment of the global unity of the Ummah and a reminder of our shared destiny and origin.
