New NSSF Contribution Rates in Kenya - AVIID The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) in Kenya has revised its contribution rates, affecting both employees and employers.

There are 3 financial statements that answer 3 different questions and tell different stories:

1. Income Statement (Are you profitable?)

It shows you whether or not your business is making a profit — this simply means whether you’re spending more than you’re earning or vice versa. It also reveals where you’re earning (which products/services are bringing in money) and where you’re spending (a breakdown of the specific expenses)

Formula: Revenue - Expenses = Profit

2. Balance Sheet (Are you healthy?)

Your balance sheet looks at a specific moment in time hence the (as at dd/mm/yyyy). It revolves around a simple equation to allow you to see your business’s net worth or financial strength.

Formula: Assets = Liabilities + Equity.

3. Cash Flow Statement (Where is cash going?)

It simply shows the movement of cash into and out of your business. This statement helps you understand how cash has been spent over a period of time.

Formula: Net Increase/Decrease of cash during period + Cash at beginning of period = Cash at end of perio

As an entrepreneur it’s easy to get caught up in the DIY mentality. You are probably so engrossed in running all aspects of your business and might end up dropping some balls in the process.
