The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) informs taxpayers that the Tax Procedures (Amendment) Act, 2024 has introduced a tax amnesty on interest, penalties or fines on tax debt for periods up to 31st December, 2023. The tax amnesty program will run from 27th December, 2024 to 30th June, 2025.
The tax amnesty shall be implemented as follows:
A person who has paid all the principal taxes that were due by 31st December, 2023 will be entitled to automatic waiver of the penalties and interest related to that period and will not be required to make an amnesty application.
A person who has not paid all the principal taxes accrued up to 31st December, 2023 and is unable to make a one-off payment for the outstanding principal taxes will be required to apply to the Commissioner for the amnesty and propose a payment plan for any outstanding principal taxes, which should be paid by 30th June 2025.

Tax Amnesty Deadline Pushed to 2025 31ST MARCH
The ongoing tax amnesty that was set to expire this Sunday has been extended to March 31, 2025 as part of new changes to the Finance Bill that seeks to drive compliance and lift state revenues
The amnesty, which sought to waive penalties and interest on unpaid tax, is a relief to persons and businesses that were wary of the pardonβs deadline date on June 30.
By extending the amnesty, it allows Kenyans who had an outstanding payment to earn reprieve from penalties and interest. This marks a big relief for Kenyans who were worried about the expiry.
Where the principal tax had not been paid before the date, a taxpayer was allowed to apply for the amnesty for interest and penalties accrued to December 31, 2022 but was required to propose a payment plan for the outstanding amount.
Taxpayers liable for the tax avoidance penalty do not qualify for the amnesty.
Without the extension of the pardon, taxpayers with outstanding principal tax would have seen penalties and interest accruing once again, handing down fresh pain.
The amnesty was expected to incentivise out-of-court settlement of tax disputes where principal taxes are agreed upon and settled within the life of the reprieve window.
A lady and her 7-year-old son were having Lunch at a cafe in Garden City Mall.
In a moment of playfulness, the boy swallows a coin and chokes. The mother tries slapping his back, rubbing his neck, shaking him hard and everything she could think of, without success.
The boy begins to turn blue. The desperate mother starts screaming for help.
A man gets up from a nearby table, and with astonishing tranquillity, without saying a word, lowers the boy's pants and squeezes his testicles.
The boy yells and spits out the coin. The gentleman with the same tranquillity returns to his table without a word.
Soon, the mother calms down and approaches the gentleman to thank him for saving her son's life.
She asks, "Sir, are you a doctor?"
"No, ma'am," comes the reply. "I'm an Assistant Commissioner of Income Taxβ at KRA
