The land is inherited. The business is built.
There is an exact moment when a family business stops growing.
It's when someone, sitting at that table, says: "We've always done it this way." And no one replies.
I know these realities. The Langhe, the Roero, the Monferrato. Businesses built with bare hands, heads down, with a dedication that few generations in the world have known how to put into their work. Fathers who turned one hectare into ten. Who opened a w**ery when no one believed in it. Who built an agriturismo, a trattoria, something that today is worth something real. They are right to be proud. And they are right to want to protect what they have built. But there is one thing no one tells them clearly: the world in which they won is no longer the world in which their children must win. The children feel it. They often know it. But they don't always have the words to say it without seeming ungrateful. And the fathers, the strongest, the most determined, sometimes listen less precisely because they have built more. A generational transition is not a signature at the notary's office. It is a difficult conversation that many families have not yet found a way to begin. And in the meantime, the business carries on. With margins no one has ever truly read. With a tax structure weighing on a model no one has ever questioned. With decisions made out of habit.
This is the invisible cost of not having someone outside the family who will say things as they are.
Sometimes that conversation begins with an outsider, someone who can afford to ask the questions no one inside the family dares to ask. To understand together where the business is heading, and whether the direction is still the right one. If you are living this moment, as a son or as a father, write to us.
A first introductory meeting with Dr. Elia is available in Turin or Alba, to assess the needs of your business. The difficult conversation, sometimes, is simpler from the outside.
