Bank Statement & Income Tax ๐Ÿ“„ | Part 2

Too many transactions in one bank account? Hereโ€™s a simple solution.

Use 2 separate bank accounts ๐Ÿ‘‡
๐Ÿ”น Main Bank Account โ€” Keep your salary/partner income, rental income, dividends, investments and other important transactions here.

๐Ÿ”น Expenses Bank Account โ€” Use this for Ola/Uber, Swiggy/Zomato, shopping and other day-to-day personal expenses.

Think of your second account like a petty cash account for personal expenses.

At year-end, your main account will have fewer transactions, making it much easier for you and your accountant or CA to review the bank statement and prepare your Income Tax Return.

A simple change today can save time and effort at year-end.

Sole Proprietor & GST | Part 2 ๐Ÿ“Š

Your shop is GST registered, but you also receive rental income in your personal name. Can you ignore it for GST?

Not necessarily.
For a sole proprietor, GST is not determined only by the trade name appearing on the GST certificate.

For GST registration and aggregate turnover, relevant activities under the same PAN across India need to be considered, subject to GST provisions.

So, you should also review other activities and receipts such as:

๐Ÿ”น Commercial rent

๐Ÿ”น Consultancy

๐Ÿ”น Professional services

๐Ÿ”น Other business activities
Even if you start another proprietorship under a different trade name, it does not automatically become a separate person for GST purposes.

But remember โ€” not every credit in your bank account is GST turnover. Different receipts can have different GST treatments.

โœ… A small review today can prevent big GST mistakes tomorrow.

Sole Proprietor & GST | Part 1 ๐Ÿ“Š

GST registration is in your business name. But can you simply ignore income earned in your personal name?

If you are a sole proprietor, donโ€™t make this assumption.

What about:

๐Ÿ”น Bank FD interest

๐Ÿ”น Dividends from shares

๐Ÿ”น Profit from investments

๐Ÿ”น Rental income

๐Ÿ”น Income from other business activities

GST does not automatically apply to every income you receive. Different types of income can have different GST implications.

So, simply calling something โ€œpersonal incomeโ€ may not be enough.

Property Sale Value & Tax | Part 2 ๐Ÿ

Your property's guideline value is โ‚น1 crore, but you can sell it for only โ‚น80 lakh. Will your capital gain still be calculated considering โ‚น1 crore?

If the difference is more than the permitted 10% variation, there may still be options available under the Income Tax provisions. The 110% threshold is reflected in the tax-return framework as well.

In this video, I explain:

๐Ÿ”น When you can request a reference to a Valuation Officer

๐Ÿ”น When the stamp-duty value on the agreement date may be considered

๐Ÿ”น Why you should check the market value, guideline value and tax impact before selling

A little planning before the sale can make a big difference.

Property Sale Value & Tax | Part 1 ๐Ÿ

Sold your property for โ‚น80 lakh, but the guideline value is โ‚น1 crore?

In some cases, the market value of a property may be lower than its guideline/stamp-duty value.

For Income Tax purposes, while calculating capital gains, the actual selling price may not always be the value considered. If the guideline/stamp-duty value is higher, it may have to be considered for tax purposes.

So, even if you actually sell your property for โ‚น80 lakh, your capital gain could be calculated considering a higher value.

There is a permitted variation under the Income Tax provisions โ€” but what happens when the difference is more?

Can you still reduce your tax impact legally?
