Reshma Begum and her daughters (aged 12 and 14) were on a family outing, and decided to enjoy some roadside momos together.

They had no idea that this would be the last meal they’d share.

Within hours, they started experiencing:

- Severe diarrhea
- Stomach pain
- Vomiting

Reshma passed away on Sunday morning - she was just 33. Her daughters survived, but are still under treatment.

This tragic incident occurred in Hyderabad recently - in the Banjara Hills area.

The same vendor had sold momos at different locations nearby. At least 20 other people have been hospitalised with severe food poisoning after eating from his stalls.

An investigation revealed some disturbing facts:

→ 1. The vendor was operating without a food safety license

→ 2. Food was prepared in unhygienic conditions - dirty hands, plates, storage

→ 3. Momo dough was stored in a broken refrigerator, without proper packaging

Two people running the stall have been detained and a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder filed.

But this won’t bring Reshma back to her daughters.

Street food safety is a serious issue that we often overlook until tragedy strikes. We hear these stories and think “it won’t happen to me”.

But this could've happened to any of us.

We need to be more proactive and take PREVENTIVE action:

1. Check if the vendor has an FSSAI license

2. Look for basic hygiene practices (clean workspace, proper storage)

3. Strictly avoid vendors who don't maintain cleanliness (no matter how good the food)

4. Report unhygienic practices to local authorities

One life lost is one too many. We need stricter enforcement of food safety standards.

Please repost this to spread awareness. It might save someone's life.

3 out of every 5 adults are unhealthy — based on their diet and lifestyle.

Luckily, it is fairly easy to identify where we are going wrong.

Here are 12 things almost everyone does, that are damaging your health:

1. Sleeping for less than 6 hours.

2. Overworking almost every day.

3. Walking less than 2000 steps a day.

4. Eating your dinner after 9 PM most days.

5. Sitting for more than 2 hours without a break.

6. Drinking out of plastic water bottles regularly.

7. Starting and ending your day with screen time.

8. Not drinking at least 3 litres of water every day.

9. Dining out or eating junk more than 2 times/week.

10. Having sugary drinks/soda more than twice a week.

11. Drinking more than 3 cups of chai/coffee in one day.

12. Screen time of 7+ hours every day, even on weekends.

The worst part is that most of these habits are normalised, so we don’t think they’re unhealthy for us.

But they add up over time, causing serious problems for your body.

I’m guilty of 2/12 of these habits — what about you?

What is HbA1c and Why you should know it today?

If you care to know I can explain it in easy language so that you can remember it for a lifetime.

By now, you know your blood has Red Blood Cells (RBC).

Your red blood cells have a red color protein called Hemoglobin (Hb).

How many Hb? Almost 270 million hemoglobin (Hb) in 1 Red Blood cells.
Yes you read it right, 270mn in 1 tiny cell.

And why this tiny cell is so red?
Because every hemoglobin has 4 red Iron atoms, making it 1bn+ Iron atoms in 1 RBC cell. 🤫

Sorry, Coming back to the main topic.

Now think of Hemoglobin as Plain Almonds and HbA1c as Caramelized Almonds.

When you add a little bit of sugar while roasting almonds. They get some sugar attached.
But when you add a good amount of sugar, they almost get wrapped in sugar making them caramelized almonds.

And that my friend is your HbA1c too. Its full form is Glycated Hemoglobin meaning Glucose attached to Hemoglobin.

The only difference here is that few hemoglobin gets Glycated and that's why HbA1c is reported as %.

Coming back to Take away, If you need to remember HbA1c for a lifetime?
Remember an image where a few caramelized almonds are mixed in plain almonds.
7 caramel almonds mixed in 93 plain almonds, that's your HbA1c 7%.

Because HbA1c is stable and can live up to 120 days in your blood. This reading gives your doctor a better picture of your past 3-4 months' sugar habits, making it difficult for you to fool them 😜 .

Do this test to see if you'll live longer.

It's called the Sit and Raise Test.

Here's how to do it: You stand up, cross your legs back, and go into a seated position. Then from that position, you get yourself back up to a seated position.

Researchers tested 2000 adults ages 51-80.

They followed them for an average of 6.3 years & out of the 159 people who died only 2 scored a perfect 10.

Those who scored the lowest scores had a 5-6x higher risk of dying than those who scored 8-10.

Older adults who have muscular strength & flexibility are less likely to fall. Falls are the leading cause of unintentional injury-related deaths for people 65 & older.

The sit & raise is a test for basic strength & mobility.

You lose a point if:

- You place your hands on the floor
- Need support
- Touch knee to the ground
- Lose balance
- Support yourself on your side of the leg

You get 0 points if you can’t do this at all.

Scored a 10? Great.

Scored less than a 10? Use that as a baseline to improve on.

✍🏼 Have you tried the Sit and Raise Test? How did you score?
♻️ If this helped you, spread the word.

The Hidden Dangers of Junk Food: Why Calories Matter

As professionals, we're always on-the-go, and convenience often wins. But do you know the real cost of relying on junk food?

Junk food is a concentrated source of empty calories, added sugars, and unhealthy fats. Compared to whole foods, it packs:

- 2-3x more calories per serving
- 5-10x more added sugars
- 2-5x more unhealthy fats

Switching to whole foods like fruits, veggies, whole grains, and lean proteins can:

- Boost energy levels
- Improve focus and productivity
- Support long-term health

1.27 billion Indians don’t even know how much protein to consume daily! Proteinification is the next big thing in food.

Many believed that fortifying food with protein was a niche phenomenon, limited to brands catering to urban India. However, with Amul Protein Lassi advertising prominently in the IPL, it’s clear that things are changing.

80% of Indians don’t meet their daily protein needs, and 90% have no idea how much protein their body actually requires! The good news is that post-COVID, there’s been a massive shift in consumer awareness towards protein-rich diets and supplements.

This trend is visible across many families and friend circles, with a growing consciousness about nutrition. People are paying close attention to macros and incorporating protein into their meals, even among vegetarians.

This shift has given rise to an exciting theme: The Indian Protein Market, which is expected to scale to over 1 Lakh Crores by 2032.

There’s significant activity in this space, not just in supplements but also in protein-rich products like chillas (Gladful), bars (The Whole Truth Foods and Yoga Bar by Sprout Life Foods), chips (Taali), biscuits (Max Protein by Naturell India Private Limited), bread (TheHealthFactory), water (AQUATEIN), and even hair masks (Fix My Curls).

Protein has evolved from just being “another vertical” to becoming an entire industry. This revolution will only grow as more Indians become conscious about their nutrition.

Where else have you seen proteinification? Do you track your daily protein intake?

PS: For daily protein intake, use this formula: Body weight in kg x 1.2 g of protein per day.

Celebs like Elon Musk, Karan Johar, and Tanmay Bhatt are rumoured to be using a new weight loss drug - Ozempic.

When the media started talking about their dramatic weight loss, everyone was wondering how they did it.

Some experts are speculating that the answer is drugs like Ozempic and Wegocy - which Elon Musk CONFIRMED using.

But what are these drugs, and how do they work?

They contain the active ingredient — semaglutide, which works by mimicking a hormone in the body that reduces hunger, slows down digestion, and makes you feel fuller for longer.

In other words, it kind of tricks your body into thinking it's already eaten.

The primary benefit is significant weight loss: 14-22% of body weight. So someone weighing 120 kg can expect to lose 16.8-26.4 kg.

This was proven in a study of 1,961 overweight adults, and they also reported:

1. Improved cardiovascular health
2. Reduced blood pressure and cholesterol

But it's not all positive. Side effects can include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, headaches and fatigue. However, these tend to decrease with long-term use.

So finally, should you use Ozempic?

Not so fast. Here are some things to consider.

▶︎ 1. These drugs aren't for everyone.

They're primarily for people with obesity (BMI over 30) or those with a BMI over 25 and conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure.

▶︎ 2. Availability

These drugs aren't yet approved for weight loss in India, and are expected to be available by 2025-2026.

▶︎ 3. Cost

It will likely be between ₹5,000 to ₹10,000 per month - not cheap, but more affordable than in other countries.

As a doctor, my advice is this: for most people, lifestyle changes should still be the first approach.

But if you think you really need this medication, keep monitoring the situation and consult with an obesity specialist to ensure you use it correctly when it launches here.

What do you think about Ozempic - the new “miracle weight loss” drug?

𝗔𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗴𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 !
Read this a million times over .

I’ll take you back to an episode in Mahabharata.
The face off between Arjuna and Karn.
It was a battle to witness !

A flurry of arrows were being exchanged, and even Gods were witnessing this epic battle between the two warriors.

Arjuna would shoot his arrows and the impact of these arrows would be so much that Karna’s chariot would go back by 25-30 feet.

Karna was no less.
When he shot arrows, Arjuna’s chariot would also shake and go back by 3-4 feet.

More than everyone,
Krishna would applaud Karna every time his arrow hit Arjuna’s chariot.

But not once did He applaud Arjuna’s skills!

At the end of the day,

𝗔𝗿𝗷𝘂𝗻𝗮 𝗮𝘀𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗞𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗻𝗮:

👉 “Oh Lord, I have shot so many arrows at Karna’s chariot, it was being displaced like a feather in wind, but not once did you appreciate me. Rather, you would appreciate his skill despite his arrows just displacing my chariot a little.”

𝗞𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗻𝗮 𝘀𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗱

👉 “Hey Arjuna remember ur chariot is protected by Hanuman at the top on your flag, Me as your charioteer in the front and by Sheshnag at its wheels.

Yet the whole chariot would still sway and displace whenever the valiant Karna hit us with his arrows.

But Karna’s chariot is not protected by any such force, he is on his own, yet he fights valiantly.”

It is said that after the battle of Kurushetra was over, Krishna refused to get off the chariot till Arjuna got down. Once Krishna alighted from the chariot, it caught fire and turned to dust.

👉 𝗞𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗻𝗮 𝘀𝗮𝗶𝗱 :
“Hey Arjuna, your chariot was destroyed by Karna a long time ago, it is I who was still protecting it.”

Never in your life have the arrogance to say that you have achieved big heights.

If you have achieved something,
it is the divine will,
it is the divine intervention , that has always protected you,
cleared your path &
given you the right opportunities
at the right time.

A 26-year-old CA working at Ernst & Young has tragically passed away due to work-related stress.

Her name was Anna Sebastian Perayil — and no one from EY even attended her funeral.

We need to ensure her name isn’t brushed under the carpet by the corporate world, so here’s her story - in memoriam.

Anna was a brilliant student — A school and college topper. She even passed her CA examinations with distinction.

So when she joined EY, she was very excited about her journey. However, she was in for a harsh reality check.

From the get go, she faced excessive workload and difficult managers.

She worked late most nights, even on weekends, and would collapse on her bed without even eating or changing, as soon as she got home.

Her manager would reschedule meetings for cricket matches, and give her tasks in the middle of the night, to be delivered the next day.

When she complained, she was told “You can work at night, that’s what we all do.”

Unfortunately, this stress added up. Within just four months of her joining, she succumbed to reasons related to “excessive workload.”

What’s more devastating is that no one from her organisation attended her funeral.

And this is the unfortunate reality that we live in today.

A survey has found that 60% of working Indians rate their work-life balance as average to terrible.

The sad reality is that no one will take a stand for your health unless you set clear professional boundaries.

Don’t get me wrong, consistency at work is important, especially in your early years, but NEVER at the cost of your mental and physical well-being.

So if you’re struggling with your workload, it’s time to work on your priorities.

Let Anna’s story be a reminder for you to check in with yourself and your loved ones.

And if you feel like there is a cause for concern, here’s are some quick tips on managing work stress better:

1. If long working hours are taking a toll on you, talk to your colleagues and raise a collective voice.

2. Start meditating before and after work, even if it’s for 5 minutes each.

3. Avoid revenge bedtime procrastination - put your phone away and get 7-8 hours of sleep.

4. On weekends, pick one day to do absolutely nothing. Sleep in, have a slow morning, and maybe take a walk – or don’t.

5. Take time out for meals - even if it’s 20 minutes. Set alarms so you don’t forget even on the stressful days.

All this said, nothing justifies the loss of such a talented and bright mind to work-related stress, with no accountability in sight.

I stand in full solidarity with Anna Sebastian Perayil, a chartered accountant and daughter to a very proud mother, and a victim of the system.

She didn’t deserve this.

If you want to share her story, please repost this to spread awareness within your network.

Folks, while jobs are important, work is a part of your life and not your life!

Work stress is still one of the major reasons for deaths causing ~ 1 million people every year. ( WHO studies)

A 26 year old, died due to work pressure and no colleague from the organisation she worked at attended her funeral.

"Her manager would often reschedule meetings during cricket matches and assign her work at the end of the day, adding to her stress."

Often times organizations that claim to have good culture don't realise that your culture is as good as your manager.

After you, no one is coming for your parents, your partner or your kids!

"Prioritise your well being above everything."
