Terrorists have opened fire at civilians and killed 2 in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Friday night, triggering fears of another targeted attack in the Valley.
​The terrorists reportedly entered a brick kiln at Kelam in South Kashmir and identified the workers before opening fire. Preliminary reports suggest the assailants specifically targeted non-locals based on their regional/religious identity.
​Security forces rushed to the spot soon after the firing and cordoned off the surrounding area. A massive search operation has been launched to trace the terrorists, who reportedly escaped after carrying out the attack.
​The targeted shooting has revived memories of the April 2025 Pahalgam massacre, where terrorists questioned tourists about their religious identity before shooting them at point-blank range. Twenty-six civilians were killed in that attack.
​Today’s attack came just hours after the Indian Army shot down and recovered a suspected Pakistani surveillance drone in Chakla village of Jammu’s Khour sector. Gorkha Rifles personnel reportedly opened fire after spotting the UAV hovering near the border. A memory card was also recovered from the drone and is being examined for possible surveillance data.

Bollywood actor Salman Khan has urged students and supporters to end the ongoing protest and return home, just hours after publicly backing their movement against alleged examination paper leaks.
​Reacting after Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised strict action against those responsible for harming the future of students, Salman wrote, “Please go back home,” while directly addressing hunger-striking activist Sonam Wangchuk. He added, “Sonam bro, eat something, I’ll send food,” suggesting that the government’s assurance had addressed the protesters’ central concern.
​The appeal marks a noticeable shift from Salman’s earlier statement, in which he described paper leaks as a serious issue and praised students for coming together to demand a better education system. He had called the protesters “courageous and brave” and said that the present generation would make India proud.
​Salman had also expressed sadness over the peaceful movement turning violent and extended support to students and their families who were injured. At the same time, he maintained that the movement should not be politically hijacked and that its credit should remain with the students.

US President Donald Trump has announced a phased tariff plan of up to 200% on imported generic medicines, a move that could significantly impact India's pharmaceutical exports to the United States and weighed on Indian pharma stocks.
​According to the announcement, imported generic medicines will remain tariff-free until August 2028, after which a 100% tariff will be imposed for one year before increasing to 200% from August 2029. Trump said the policy is aimed at encouraging pharmaceutical companies to shift manufacturing to the United States.
​India, one of the world's largest suppliers of generic medicines to the US, could be among the countries most affected if the proposal takes effect. Following the announcement, shares of several Indian pharmaceutical companies declined, contributing to weakness in the sector, although analysts noted that the policy is not expected to have an immediate impact because of the two-year transition period.
​Industry bodies have expressed concern over the proposal, arguing that shifting large-scale generic drug manufacturing to the US would be difficult and could increase medicine prices for American consumers. They also said they plan to engage with US policymakers before the tariffs are scheduled to come into force.
