World Fair Trade Day feels like a good moment to say something more specific than "we care about fair trade." So we wrote about what our WFTO certification actually requires, why every bag is made by one artisan from start to finish, and what it really costs to produce without shortcuts.

It's worth a read if you've ever wondered what ethical production looks like beyond the label.

You can get to know the woman who made your Loyal satchel or bag by looking at the inside pocket. On it is etched the name of the woman who hand-stitched it. Find her on the "Our People" page of our website.

When our founders, Paul and Sarah, first looked at starting The Loyal Workshop back in 2014, they didn’t think they’d ever be able to work with leather. The environmental impact felt too great with the waste from the tanning process, damage to waterways and soil, and negative effects on the people working with it. That was until they discovered eco-tanned leather - a tanning process that avoids chromiums and harmful metals, making it better for both the environment and the people behind the craft.

At The Loyal Workshop, we keep things intentionally small. We produce in limited quantities, and most of our already minimal materials come from just a short bike ride or taxi ride away. Every piece is made slowly and deliberately, with care and precision. Leather is precious, and we work hard to ensure every last scrap is used well.

This way of working reflects what matters most to us: creating products that last, through a process that honours our artisans and our environment β€” making space for dignity, healing, wellbeing, and freedom.

Every Loyal cross-body bag is hand-stitched, signed by the woman who made it and built to last for decades. But how to know which one is right for you? Well, we broke it all down in our latest blog post, from the featherweight Dorothy Mini to the super-heavyweight Nelson Messenger.

We recently sat down with Paul and Leah from Paddington Store in Mt Maunganui, New Zealand to hear about their journey stocking The Loyal Workshop.

We're going to be running a regular series highlighting our brick and mortar retailers. They're the kind of warm, welcoming places you can go to see, touch and smell our products.

You can read the rest of the conversation over on our blog. The link is where all good little links are, in our bio. 🀎

Happy Women's Day!

"My life now is much more beautiful than before."

When Raima talks about what's changed since joining The Loyal Workshop, she speaks about her daughters, her health, her stability, and the pride she takes in her stitching. It's a reminder of what dignified, long-term employment can mean for a woman and everyone around her.

We'd love to know, who are you thinking of today? Drop her name in the comments (and read our latest Women's Day blog via the link in our bio). πŸ’œ

International Women's Day is only a few days away. In light of this year's theme, we asked the women in our Kolkata workshop one question: What have you gained?

Raima spoke about teaching her daughters well, eating properly, and finding joy in her stitching. Mira talked about her children going to school and learning things she can now pass on to them. Anima described watching her children experience a world that felt out of reach before.

This is what looks like. Read their stories in full. The link is in our bio.
