JOB VACANCY-General Manager – Arigu Quarry
A reputable construction company is seeking the services of a General Manager at its “Arigu” Quarry.
Objectives/Core Purpose of the Job: To ensure that all quarry projects are conducted in accordance with company and regulatory compliance, health and safety management systems.
Role : The General Manager of the Quarry is to combine managing Quarry workers with office-based duties such as managing budgets, negotiating, organising maintenance programmes, environmental planning and marketing of products. To also liaise with contractors, local authorities, regulatory agencies and community groups in the region on behalf of the organisation.
Responsibilities and Duties:
The main responsible of the General Manager will include but not limited to the following:
• Quarry Management
• Manage cost/investment with the ultimate aim of recording realistic profits margins
• Present, discuss and mutual agree on annual targets with Management
• Responsible for all Quarry Assets
• Ensure every allocated work project has a scope of works that effectively and efficiently
utilise the labour, plant and material necessary to complete the work within budget, on
time and to the required quality standard
• Proactive in identification and resolution of any technical issues relating to the production
• Undertake regular site inspections and risk assessments in order to comply with all health
and safety regulations
• Ensure that quarry personnel have a clear understanding of the performance expectations
for the designated areas of responsibility
• Ensure all legal documentation needed to run the quarry are renewed on time
• Health and Safety
• Undertake regular site inspections and risk assessments in order to comply with Health
and Safety regulations
• Draw up and implement a structured health & safety procedure and schedule
• Perform site audits and safety inspections in accordance to the schedule
• Produce indents reports including injuries within a maximum of 48 hours of incidence
• Ensure 100% implementation of Plan Preventive Maintenance schedules
• Ensure you and your team attend health & safety meetings, as per the meeting schedule
• Financial Management
• Responsible for the financial management of the Quarry
• Staff Management
• Manage the quarry personnel effectively to achieve business objectives
• Manage staff effectively by a consistent approach to training and development,
performance management, capability and disciplinary issues and through open
communication
• Present quarterly report on staff issues to the HR department at the Head Office
• Critical decisions on core staff issues shall be done with approval from the Head Office.
E.g. Recruitment, terminations, change in roles, salary adjustment etc.
• Risk Management
• Create risk register
• Implement risk mitigating strategies
• Produce monthly report on key risk

• Quality Assurance (QA)
• Ensure that the quarry service area is compliant with QA standards and other relevant
legislative requirements and providing feedback to management teams as appropriate
• Workshop Management
• Work closely with Workshop Manager in managing and motivating a team of technical staff
to ensure that Company standards are adhered to in all aspects of the engineering unit, this includes vehicle safety maintenance, inspection, plant and equipment, stores, cleanliness and environmental responsibilities
• Ensure the achievement of engineering KPIs/budgets. Programming and overseeing preventative maintenance
• Proper records keeping of all plant and equipment being maintained
• Performance Information
• Submit daily, weekly, monthly and annual reports to the MD on all operational activities at the Quarry in line with both Company and Mineral Commission Inspectorate division requirements. The report shall cover but not limited to the following areas: Production, Accounts, Budget status reports, Maintenance, Procurement & Stores, Sales, HR and Administration, Health, Safety & Environment, Explosives consumptions, etc.
• Identify and recommend improvements to increase operational efficiencies whilst adopting industry practice
• Deliver a customer centered approach in all aspects of the role ensuring the needs of individual customers are fully met
Minimum Job Entry Requirements
§ Degree, HND or foundation degree, in a relevant subject such as (chemistry/industrial chemistry, earth sciences, environmental sciences/engineering, geology/mining geology, geophysics, materials science, minerals engineering/surveying, mining engineering/technology, physics)
§ Modern Engineering background
§ Relevant trade qualifications or equivalent industry experience
§ QuarryManagersCertificateofCompetency-(Quarrywithmorethan25people),RestrictedQuarry
Managers Certificate of Competency - (Quarry with less than 25 people).
Related Experience and Skills
§ Working experience as a Quarry Manager with a minimum of 8-10 years in the construction and mining industry
§ Strong level of technical understanding of quarrying environments and extraction systems
§ Ability to work in remote locations on flyin/flyout rotation schedules
§ Knowledge of health and safety issues and how they relate to practical working environments
§ Ability to tolerate noisy, dirty and uncomfortable working environments - some of the time
§ Senior First Aid Certificate
§ Manage and communicate with stakeholders
§ Demonstrated leadership skills and competency
§ Previous experience working in a team environment
§ Professional interpersonal and communication skills
§ Strong customer service skills.
