Did you know?

The Samsung family paid around $8 billion in inheritance tax after the death of chairman Lee Kun-hee in 2020 making it one of the largest inheritance tax payments in history.

His estate was valued at approximately $20 billion and included Samsung shares, property, investments, and valuable artwork. Due to South Korea’s high inheritance tax rates, the family reportedly paid the tax over several years through installments.

To manage the tax burden, family members used dividends, loans, and share sales, while also donating thousands of artworks and significant amounts to healthcare initiatives.

The case became a global example of how inheritance tax can impact even the wealthiest families and largest business empires.
