I was pleased to see some amendments to the proposed changes to Agricultural Property Relief and Business Property Relief from April 2026. I’ve updated my post to reflect these April 2026 changes, although I’m sure many within the agricultural community feel the government should go further with these proposals and not change from the current rules.

Only draft legislation has been released so far, and there may still be further changes. This is likely to have a significant impact on the agricultural community, particularly as farming is a way of life involving long hours and little opportunity to step away from the business. After speaking with several people within the agricultural sector, it’s clear there is real concern about the future succession of farms. With this in mind, taking time to consider financial planning now could make a real difference in protecting the farm’s future and ensuring its successful succession.
