🀝 What a brilliant day at the Synergy Kent Business Networking Summit!

Today was all about meeting people, making new connections, catching up with familiar faces and being part of a fantastic Kent business community.

There was a great atmosphere throughout the day and plenty of interesting conversations with business owners and professionals from across Kent.

A huge thank you to Linda Cloke and everyone at .events for all the work that went into organising the Summit and bringing everyone together. πŸ‘

Freed Accountancy was really proud to be involved and to support the event alongside the other sponsors:
🀝 IT Manager Services
🀝 Orida Hotel
🀝 HR Consulting Kent

We also had some great presentations throughout the day, and it was a pleasure to share the speaker line-up with:

🎀 Lyndsey Moore
🎀 Tom Reveley CITP FBCS

And thank you to everyone who came over and introduced themselves or stopped for a chat. That's what days like today are really about.

I came away with new connections, conversations to follow up on and plenty of ideas, as well as finally being able to say I've delivered my Summit presentation! πŸ˜…πŸŽ€

A great day for Freed Accountancy and a great day for Kent business. πŸ’™

🎀 Tomorrow's the day!

After weeks of talking about it, preparing for it and perhaps a few last-minute tweaks to the presentation… the Kent Business Networking Summit is finally here tomorrow!

I'm really looking forward to representing Freed Accountancy, supporting the Summit as a sponsor and, of course, taking to the stage to deliver my talk.

Networking has played a big part in the growth of Freed Accountancy. I've met clients, built referral relationships and made some genuinely good connections through getting out and meeting other business owners.

So tomorrow isn't just about promoting Freed Accountancy.

How important good accounting is to your business, and how embracing technology can help you make better, more informed decisions.

Accounting shouldn't just be about submitting returns and finding out how much tax you owe.
When your bookkeeping is up to date and you're using the right technology, your financial information can tell you so much more about your business.

⏰ 10:30am – 2:00pm

If you're already coming, please come over and say hello. πŸ‘‹

And if you've been thinking about it, there's still time to join us:

πŸ“£ We’re hiring!

Freed Accountancy is growing, and I’m looking for an experienced Practice Accountant to join the team.

This is a great opportunity for someone looking for a flexible part-time position with the potential to grow into something much bigger.

🏠 Home-based / remote
πŸ•’ 3 days per week – 22.5 hours
πŸ’· Β£30,000–£35,000 FTE, depending on experience and qualifications
πŸ“ˆ Long-term progression with the potential to increase days as we grow

You'll be working across accounts, Corporation Tax, Self Assessment, VAT, MTD, CIS and client support, as well as helping us continue to improve the systems and processes behind the practice.

Previous accountancy practice experience is essential.

We're a modern, paperless practice that embraces technology, but still believes that good accountancy is ultimately about providing a great service and building relationships with clients.

Interested? Drop me a private message for an informal chat.

And if you know someone who might be a great fit, I'd really appreciate you sharing this with them. πŸ™Œ

πŸ”οΈ Back to reality after a week away!

I've spent the past week taking a proper break from work, heading up to Carlisle to spend some time with family, followed by a few days exploring the Lake District.

Running your own business can make properly switching off difficult. There's always another email you could answer, another job you could finish or something you could be planning.

But sometimes getting away from the laptop for a few days is exactly what's needed.

It's been great spending time with family, enjoying some incredible scenery and having a chance to recharge.

Now it's back home and straight into what is going to be a particularly exciting week for Freed Accountancy.

🎀 This Wednesday I'll be at the Kent Business Networking Summit, where Freed Accountancy is sponsoring the event and I'll also be taking to the stage to speak.

Quite a change of scenery from the Lake District! πŸ˜…

Batteries recharged. πŸ”‹
Back to work tomorrow. πŸ’»
Then onto the Summit on Wednesday. 🎀

Anyone else find it difficult to completely switch off when you run your own business?

πŸ¦† Race day is here!

We're at the Rotary Club of Canterbury Annual Duck Race today and things have become slightly more competitive than expected in the Freed household. πŸ˜‚

With around 3,000 ducks taking to the water, we've got two chances of bringing home the glory:

πŸ¦† #111 β€” Team Mark
πŸ¦† #245 β€” Team Laura

Laura has firmly claimed #245 as her own, so there's now considerably more riding on this than when we first decided to get involved! πŸ˜‚

Joking aside, it's great to be here supporting a brilliant local event and the fundraising carried out by the Rotary Club of Canterbury.

Freed Accountancy is proud to support local businesses and organisations, but it's also important to us to get involved with events happening within the communities we work in.

Who are you backing?
πŸ‘‡ 111 β€” Team Mark
πŸ‘‡ 245 β€” Team Laura

We'll report back with the result!

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ’» Does having a modern accountant mean losing the personal service?

I don't think it should.

Accountancy has changed enormously.

Cloud accounting, automated bank feeds, digital receipts, electronic signatures, secure portals and automation can make managing finances much quicker and more efficient.

I'm a big believer in using that technology at Freed Accountancy.

But there's something I don't want technology to replace:

Being able to speak to your accountant.

When you're running a business, sometimes you don't want another portal, chatbot or automated response.

You have a question.

Something doesn't look right.

You're thinking about making a big purchase.
Your business is growing.

Or you've received one of those lovely brown envelopes from HMRC. πŸ˜…

Sometimes you simply want to pick up the phone and talk it through with someone who already knows you and your business.

That's why the practice I'm building combines the two:

πŸ’» Modern technology to make accounting simpler and more efficient.

🀝 A dedicated accountant who you can actually speak to when you need support.
Technology should give us more time to help clients, not less.

❓ What matters most to you from an accountant β€” technology, quick responses, proactive advice, personal contact, or something else?

I'd genuinely be interested to know. πŸ‘‡

Plan your finances. Live your dreams.

πŸ’· One of the most common questions I hear from business owners is:

β€œHow much should I be putting aside for tax?”

And unfortunately, there's no magic percentage that works for everyone.

Your tax bill can depend on your business structure, profit, other income, dividends, PAYE, VAT and your individual circumstances.
But one thing is universal:

Tax is much easier to deal with when you've planned for it.

Too often, business owners look at the balance in their bank account and assume that's what they have available to spend.

But some of that money may already effectively belong elsewhere. Whether that's VAT, Corporation Tax, Income Tax or PAYE.

That's why I encourage clients to think about tax throughout the year, rather than waiting until a return is prepared and discovering a large bill is due.

Good bookkeeping and up-to-date accounts aren't just about keeping HMRC happy either.

They help you answer much more useful questions:
πŸ‘‰ How profitable am I actually?
πŸ‘‰ What tax am I likely to owe?
πŸ‘‰ What can I safely take from the business?
πŸ‘‰ Can I afford that next investment?

Your accounts should help you run your business and not just tell you what happened last year.

❓ Do you regularly put money aside for tax, or deal with the bill when it arrives?

Plan your finances. Live your dreams.

πŸ“š Just another day at Freed Accountancy… and a busy one at that!

Today has been one of those days where I've barely looked at the clock:
βœ… CIS returns submitted
🀝 New client meeting
πŸ‘‹ Client onboarding
πŸ“§ Plenty of emails
πŸ“ž Lots of phone calls β€” including one with HMRC!
πŸ“‹ Another proposal sent out to a prospective client

There's a lot happening behind the scenes at the moment as Freed Accountancy continues to grow, and no two days seem to look quite the same.

But that's one of the things I enjoy about running the practice.

Behind every return, email, meeting or phone call is a client or business owner who needs something different from their accountant.

Technology helps us make the processes quicker and more efficient, but I never want that to replace the personal relationship between accountant and client.

Sometimes you need an email answered quickly. Sometimes you need advice. And sometimes you simply need to pick up the phone and speak to your accountant.

That's the kind of practice I'm continuing to build.

Anyway… I think that's enough accountancy for one day! πŸ˜…

Plan your finances. Live your dreams.
