Do you have a normal job, but also earn extra on the side? ๐Ÿ‘€

Maybe youโ€™re employed but also do a bit of:
โ€ข cleaning
โ€ข beauty
โ€ข dog walking
โ€ข hair
โ€ข freelance work
โ€ข online sales

A lot of people assume PAYE means everything is covered โ€” but thatโ€™s not always the case.
If youโ€™re earning extra income, itโ€™s worth checking whether a Self Assessment tax return is needed.

๐Ÿ“Š Why Monthly Bookkeeping Matters

Many small business owners only look at their accounts when it's time to submit a VAT return or tax return.

Unfortunately, leaving bookkeeping until the last minute can lead to:

โŒ Missing expenses
โŒ Cash flow surprises
โŒ Inaccurate financial information
โŒ Stress at year end
โŒ Avoidable tax mistakes

Keeping your records up to date each month allows you to:

โœ… Monitor business performance
โœ… Track income and expenses accurately
โœ… Stay prepared for VAT and tax deadlines
โœ… Identify issues before they become bigger problems
โœ… Make informed business decisions

Good bookkeeping isn't just about compliance โ€“ it's about understanding how your business is performing and having confidence in your numbers.

If your bookkeeping is falling behind, I can help.

๐Ÿ“‚ Getting Organised Early = Less Stress Later ๐Ÿ“‚

One of the best things a sole trader can do is stay organised throughout the year rather than leaving everything until January ๐Ÿ˜…

Keeping on top of your records means:
โœ”๏ธ Less stress at tax return time
โœ”๏ธ Fewer missing receipts/documents
โœ”๏ธ Better understanding of your income & expenses
โœ”๏ธ More time to plan for tax bills
โœ”๏ธ Less chance of errors

Even something as simple as:
๐Ÿ“Œ Keeping business transactions separate
๐Ÿ“Œ Saving invoices digitally
๐Ÿ“Œ Tracking expenses monthly
๐Ÿ“Œ Putting money aside for tax

can make a HUGE difference.

I always encourage clients to prepare early rather than rushing at the last minute ๐Ÿงพ

โš ๏ธ Sole Traders โ€“ Donโ€™t Get Caught Out By โ€œPayments on Accountโ€ โš ๏ธ

One of the biggest shocks for self-employed individuals is receiving a tax bill that is MUCH higher than expected ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Why? Because HMRC may ask you to make a โ€œPayment on Accountโ€ towards the following tax year.

This means your January payment could include:

โœ”๏ธ Your current tax bill
PLUS
โœ”๏ธ An advance payment towards next yearโ€™s tax bill

This often catches people out when:
๐Ÿ“Œ Earnings increase
๐Ÿ“Œ Little tax has been paid during the year
๐Ÿ“Œ Itโ€™s your first year with higher profits

๐Ÿ’ก My advice? Start putting money aside regularly now rather than panicking later.

Keeping organised records throughout the year also helps avoid surprises and allows for better tax planning ๐Ÿ“‚

If you need help with:
โœ”๏ธ Self Assessments
โœ”๏ธ Bookkeeping
โœ”๏ธ Tax planning for sole traders
