St Louis Cemetery No 1 hosts burial monuments to notable 18th and 19th century New Orleanians. Amongst those are the voodoo queen Marie Laveau for whom many visitors try to leave offerings or mark her grave with # # #. The cemetery was featured in Easy Rider and is so iconic to the city that Nicholas Cage has already built a white pyramid in the middle for his own (future) remains.

I visited in New Orleans yesterday. It’s an awe inspiring tribute to the allied response to the Second World War and goes into lots of historical detail on battles and armaments and the machinations of war. But what was more striking were the personal stories that were infused throughout the exhibits as well as the memorial footpath honouring ordinary vets. Families of those involved can personalise a message of remembrance with several expressing their pride at their loved ones military achievements.

is a tremendous meditation on grief and mourning following a su***de. It’s an intense, funny, sorrowful and pained series that is thought provoking and poignant. It is also full of hope. Do watch it. Savour it.

“I don’t know yet if the grief will ever feel easier. But I am sure of one thing: if given the opportunity to choose Eli and this life again – now knowing how our love story tragically ends, how the reality of loss is one that is filled with courtrooms, social security offices and accountants, and how I will spend decades staring ahead to a future filled with excruciating grief – I wouldn’t hesitate for a moment.

I would just grab his hand and leap.” This is the conclusion of a heartbreaking article in todays by Madeline de Figueiredo about how social inequality impacts grief.

As anyone that’s worked with me knows, I’m all for people thinking about their funerals before they go… so if you’re looking for inspiration (with a fair dose of humour and string language) listen to new available at the usual spaces. Very funny but also thought provoking. What do you want on your funeral day?

Kendrick Lamar’s recent show opened with United in Grief… which got me thinking about the heartbreaking club that you never wanted to join when a loved one died. You might meet some amazing people in your grief gang, and it may help you feel less alone in your experience, but the only person you want is the one that has died. But through talking about them, sharing your experience and creating space for them as your life grows around your grief, things eventually, become, as Kendrick sings in this clip, alright.

Fashion and faith (as well as food and football) are amongst the passions of Italy. Style is undeniable here and that extends to funerals too!

I was struck by the public funeral notices in Cisternino, Puglia, posted alongside concert posters and adverts for local events. People stopped and read them, sometimes discretely offering the sign of the cross and a quiet prayer.

Check in on your bereaved friend. It might be 2 days, 2 years, 2 decades… but get in touch. The funeral has passed, anniversaries endured and they may seem “back to normal” and even if their lives have grown around their grief, the grief is still there. from via

Though we might look to celebrate a life in our mourning rituals, the circumstances of a death can make the hard to express anything but anger and sorrow. Todays peaceful march to Scotland Yard showed how the grief for Chris Kaba, who was murdered by the police on Monday, was experienced by many with rage at the injustice but also a sense of calm solidarity amongst those that hope the truth will out.
