HMRC mileage rate just went up.
The Chancellor announced it today, the approved mileage rate has increased from 45p to 55p per mile, backdated to April 2026.
It hadn’t changed since 2011.
Here’s what this means for you:
✅ If you use your own car for work, you can now claim 55p per mile (first 10,000 miles) ✅ If you’re an employer, you need to update what you reimburse staff ✅ If you’ve already claimed at 45p this tax year, you may be owed the difference ✅ Self-employed? This applies to your business mileage too
Make sure your payroll and expense records are updated to reflect the new rate.
Not sure how this affects your business? Message us we’ll sort it.

I started Simplex because I kept seeing the same thing.
Tradespeople, landlords, sole traders and limited company directors all working hard in their field but completely overwhelmed when it came to staying compliant.
And it is not their fault.
HMRC keeps changing the rules every single year. MTD, CIS, new thresholds, new deadlines. Most people do not find out until a penalty letter lands on their doorstep.
After 10+ years in accounting and payroll I knew there had to be a better way. Clear advice, transparent pricing and proper support that keeps you on the right side of HMRC all year round.
That is why Simplex exists.
If you are based in London or Kent and want to get properly organised, get in touch today.
