We recently had the pleasure of welcoming Aalok Gohil to join us for a week of work experience. Aalok is starting his final year of an Accounting and Finance Degree at the University of Leicester and was keen to gain experience at a small practice.
Director Tom was delighted with how the week went, saying;
“It was great to see the enthusiasm that Aalok showed for the role, reaching out to us after we posted on LinkedIn about the opportunity and making the fairly long journey into us all week. Aalok’s hard work and diligence all week was a real help in the office, and it was great to see the rapport that he immediately built up with the entire team here. We are always keen to try and offer support when people need it and if this helps Aalok in his studies or future career in any way, that would be great for us to see. These things work both ways and Aalok provided great assistance throughout the week – a real win, win all round.”
Unfortunately we didn't manage to get a photo of Aalok when he was on work experience at HK. So we've included a picture of the team in action.
HK are currently recruiting for a Accounts & Taxation Trainee and seeking work experience applications for the future. For more information, please visit our website.

Big news for anyone running a theme park, zoo, cinema, restaurant, soft play centre, theatre, or similar business.
The government has just announced a temporary VAT cut from 20% down to 5% on certain family activities and children's meals this summer, running from 25th June to 1st September 2026.
It's called the 'Great British Summer Savings' initiative and while it's a welcome bit of relief, there are some things you'll need to get sorted before it kicks in, like updating your till systems, menus, and making sure your records are ready for your VAT return.
Oh, and you don't legally have to pass the savings on to customers (although discounts may be a good marketing tool to encourage new customers), you can choose to utilise the difference to help improve your gross margins instead. Totally up to you!
We've written a short article breaking it all down: https://harlingkirkaccountants.co.uk/tax/summer-vat-changes-announced-by-hmrc/
If you've got any questions or need a hand getting ready for the change, get in touch with Frank.
