🚨 IMPORTANT UPDATE – MAKING TAX DIGITAL (MTD) 🚨

We’re still receiving questions from clients hoping to continue submitting just one tax return each year. Unfortunately, for those affected by MTD, things are changing!

From April 2027, those with qualifying income over £30,000 from self-employment and/or property will need to comply with Making Tax Digital.

This means:
- 4 quarterly updates to HMRC throughout the year
- A final Self Assessment tax return after the tax year
- Digital record-keeping using compatible software

📩 CLIENT REMINDERS

Throughout this week, I’ll be contacting clients again who are affected by these changes, following on from the information and messages already sent out.

Please don’t leave this until the last minute!

Getting everything ready takes time, including setting up software, arranging agent access and completing HMRC registration.

Leaving things too late could result in missed deadlines and potential penalties.

A little update from MP Tax & Finance 👋

Firstly, apologies for being a little quiet on here recently — there’s been plenty going on behind the scenes!

I’m now starting preparations for Making Tax Digital (MTD) from April 2027.

Over the coming weeks, existing clients who will be affected will start receiving new quotes and agreements to review.

⚠️ If you hear from me, please respond as soon as possible. I’ll have limited spaces available and these will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

There’s quite a bit to get ready beforehand — including software, HMRC access/authorisations, logins and making sure everything is ready for the new quarterly submissions.

The aim is simple: get everything sorted well in advance of April 2027 rather than leaving it until the last minute.

MTD isn’t just another tax return.

It changes how you’ll need to keep your records throughout the year.

For those affected, it will mean keeping digital records, using compatible software and sending quarterly updates to HMRC. You’ll still need to complete the usual year-end process too.

It sounds like more work, but with the right setup it should actually make it easier to see where your business stands during the year.

A healthy bank balance doesn’t always mean you have money available to spend.

Some of it belongs to HMRC, some is needed for upcoming bills and only part of it is actually yours to take.

Splitting your money into three pots—tax, bills and paying yourself—makes things much easier to manage.

Simple idea, but it can save a lot of stress when the tax bill arrives.

“I’ve made a profit, so why is there no money in the bank?”

Something I hear more often than you’d think.

You might have invoices waiting to be paid, stock already purchased or tax and bills coming up. The business can look profitable on paper while the bank balance tells a completely different story.

That’s why I think every business should have a basic cash-flow tracker.

Turnover over £30,000? This one’s for you…

From April 2027, Making Tax Digital will apply to more sole traders and landlords.

Instead of sorting everything once a year, you’ll need to keep digital records and send updates to HMRC every quarter.

There’s still time to prepare, but I definitely wouldn’t leave it until March!
