Manulife and Chinabank Strengthen Alliance as CEO Visits Manila
Manulife’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Phil Witherington, recently visited Manila to meet with Chinabank’s executive leadership team, celebrating the enduring bancassurance partnership between Manulife Philippines and Chinabank via Manulife China Bank Life Assurance Corporation (MCBL). This high-level meeting builds directly upon the renewed 15-year agreement signed in 2025, which extends their successful alliance that originally began back in 2007.
Operating through a robust network of 650 nationwide Chinabank and China Bank Savings branches, MCBL offers a diverse portfolio of life, health, wealth, savings, and retirement solutions designed to safeguard the financial futures of Filipino families. Following the agreement's renewal, the joint venture has experienced fresh momentum and impressive double-digit year-on-year growth, driven by Manulife's global insurance expertise and Chinabank's trusted domestic presence.
Key executives underscored the shared vision and collaborative strength underpinning MCBL's ongoing success. Phil Witherington, Hans Sy (Chinabank Chairman), and Amy Gochuico (MCBL President and CEO) all highlighted that trust, shared values, and a deep understanding of local customers will continue to guide the partnership as it enters this dynamic new chapter.

Partnerships grow through honest conversation, shared priorities and a determination to turn ambition into results.
At the European Investment Bank in Luxembourg, EIB Global Director-General Andrew McDowell welcomed Mr Бямбацогт Сандаг Byambatsogt Sandag, Chairman of Mongolia’s State Great Khural, together with Members of Parliament, Ambassador Bold Luvsanvandan, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Gombosuren Amartuvshin, Consul of Mongolia to Luxembourg Philippe Cahen, Consul of Luxembourg to Mongolia, Dashdavaa Hulan, and representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Parliament administrations.
The Chairman expressed his interest in reviewing the proposed EIB forestry and bioeconomy framework loan when it is ready for consideration by Parliament. This potential investment could support healthier forests and landscapes, greater climate resilience, sustainable rural livelihoods and new opportunities in Mongolia’s green economy.
The discussion also looked beyond financing. Chairman Byambatsogt invited EIB to share its perspectives on Mongolia’s new and revised laws concerning forests, water and protected natural areas—important foundations for protecting the country’s natural heritage while supporting sustainable development.
Renewable energy, sustainable transport, agriculture and SME financing also emerged as promising areas for future collaboration.
Behind every framework and investment are people, communities and places. By working together, Mongolia and the EIB can help turn long-term green ambitions into practical improvements for everyday life

On 20 August 2026, the German Business Association - GBA organized an exclusive excursion to THACO Group Chu Lai Industrial Park, welcoming 40 participants, including GBA Board members and representatives of German and German-related companies, for an insightful afternoon exploring one of Vietnam’s most advanced industrial and manufacturing ecosystems.
💡The delegation was warmly received by the management teams of THACO Chu Lai Industrial Parks and BMW Vietnam, who shared valuable perspectives on THACO’s development journey, manufacturing capabilities, and long-term vision for the Chu Lai Industrial & Logistics Ecosystem.
👉 A key highlight was the cooperation between THACO and BMW, which GBA Chairman – Mr. Alexander Ziehe described as a strong example of successful German–Vietnamese business collaboration. Since becoming BMW’s official importer in Vietnam in 2018, THACO’s partnership with BMW has expanded across local assembly, retail development and the broader automotive ecosystem.
The excursion provided participants with not only a deeper understanding of Vietnam’s manufacturing landscape but also valuable opportunities for exchange between GBA members and THACO leadership, fostering connections and exploring potential avenues for future cooperation.
🙏 GBA would like to express our sincere appreciation to THACO Chu Lai, the BMW management team, and all staff involved for their warm hospitality, informative presentations, and the exceptionally well-organized tour experience.
We look forward to bringing our members more opportunities to discover leading enterprises and strengthen business connections across Vietnam.

Electricity demand is growing. Our grids need to keep up.
That’s why we’re investing a further €50 million in Slovakia’s electricity distribution network, bringing our total financing for ZSE Group’s grid upgrades to €400 million.
Our financing will help
🔵modernise overhead lines and underground cables,
🔵upgrade substations and transformers,
🔵roll out smart meters
🔵 deploy grid automation technologies.
Making it easier to integrate more renewable energy, strengthen energy security and prepare the network for growing electricity demand.

In partnership with CAA, we are proud to share a collective achievement: between 2019 and 2025, we have reduced our total carbon footprint by 25%.
This progress reflects a sustained effort to align our work with our climate commitments while continuing to deliver high-quality executive education and dialogue programmes.
A key driver has been a significant reduction in travel-related emissions, which decreased by 53% (from ~1,317 tCO₂e in 2019 to ~617 tCO₂e in 2025). This is largely due to fewer participant air travels, as more of our courses are now customised and delivered abroad, enabling stronger local participation and reducing long-haul travel. At the same time, we have seen an increase in travel linked to diplomatic dialogue activities, reflecting the growing importance of in-person convening.
We also saw shifts across other areas:
• Goods emissions: -28%, mainly due to reduced IT equipment purchases
• Services emissions: +45%, driven by increased hotel bookings linked to in-person activities
While services and travel now represent comparable shares of our footprint, goods and energy remain relatively limited contributors overall.
This achievement shows what is possible when partnership, data, and consistent operational changes come together. We are proud of this progress and motivated to go further.

🇪🇺 🇰🇪 Electricity changes lives: it helps children study after dark, enables entrepreneurs to grow their businesses, improves access to services and creates new economic opportunities.
With the Last Mile Electricity Connectivity Project, we are (through EIB Global) helping extend reliable electricity to homes, schools and businesses across Kenya.
The country has made strong progress in expanding access to electricity: increasing from 29% in 2012 to 79% today. Yet many parts of it remain unconnected.
Co-financed with the European Commission, the African Development Bank Group and AFD - Agence Française de Développement, the Last Mile Electricity Connectivity project aims to power more homes, schools and businesses. Our goal is to reach 296,000 households and small businesses: ~1.4 million people across 32 counties.
Together, we can ensure that everyone benefits from the energy transition
