Importing to China? Don't skip this step!

Step 3 is the final part of getting your import and export license.

It covers the key legal requirements for bringing goods into China.

Some products, like electronics and vehicles, need the CCC mark to be sold there.

You also need to plan for customs duties, VAT, and sometimes a consumption tax.

Every shipment requires a customs declaration with invoices, packing lists, and shipping documents.

And all payments must follow the foreign exchange rules set by SAFE.

Get it right and your imports move smoothly. 📦

A contract is not just paperwork. It can shape the risks and protections surrounding your business in China.

A poorly written employment contract or employee handbook can create problems just as easily as an inappropriate consultant arrangement.

A tailor made contract should reflect your industry, your company principles, and the way your business actually operates.

For employees in China, a formal labor relationship can also provide greater security and protection.

And importantly, the right labor relationship can protect the company too.

⚠️ Big tax change for foreign shareholders in China starting September 1, 2026!

China just released Announcement No. 27.

After 32 years, the tax break for foreign individual shareholders on dividends is ending.

From September 1, 2026, direct foreign individual shareholders will pay 20% personal income tax on dividends.

The company must withhold this tax when paying dividends.

That means your total tax cost will go up. 📈

Many companies are now reviewing their share structure.

One possible option is holding shares through an overseas company instead of directly.

Depending on tax treaties, this may lower your tax burden.

But restructuring is not simple. 🧩

Share price, real business purpose, anti-avoidance checks, foreign exchange rules and paperwork all matter.

There is no one-size-fits-all solution.

Our advice: calculate costs and check risks early.

During a busy work schedule in Hong Kong, we had the opportunity to visit Kenneth Chau & Co., a long-standing member firm within the MGI Global Network.

Most of our collaboration and cross-border business coordination happens online, making this face-to-face meeting a valuable opportunity to better understand each other's services, business systems and international resources.

The visit also offered a closer look at the firm's remarkable professional heritage and the story behind its decades of experience.

What made the experience even more memorable was discovering the history surrounding the firm's office in the heart of Central.

A meeting that connected business, international collaboration and Hong Kong's rich history.

What happens when the supplier responsible for your business also becomes the employer of your employees?

At first, it might seem like a flexible way to structure your team.

But once the supplier becomes the employer, the employment relationship can become much more complicated.

There can be conflicts of interest, questions around loyalty and commitment, and a relationship that goes far beyond a simple service contract.

So before choosing this structure, there is one important question to ask: who should actually be employing your team?

22/09/2026

Hiring in China does not always mean setting up your own company.

For short-term projects, contractors can offer flexibility, especially when you need people in different locations.

But when flexibility and speed matter, an Employer of Record can be another option, particularly for smaller teams.

The important question is not simply how to hire, but which structure fits your situation.
