This is a scenario I see more than people realise.
A healthcare worker nurse, physio, physician
goes on maternity or parental leave.
She assumes her disability coverage continues.
In many cases, it doesn't.
Or it converts to a different and far weaker definition.
Or the waiting period resets if she returns part-time first.
And if a health condition develops during leave
returning to the same coverage she had before becomes more complicated.
This is the conversation that needs to happen BEFORE the leave begins.
Not during. Not after. Before.
Are you pregnant, planning a family, or currently on parental leave
and unsure about your coverage status?
DM me 'BABYLEAVE' I'll walk you through exactly what to check
and what to do if you find a gap. π

This one is for the incorporated healthcare professionals.
When your insurance policy is held inside your corporation:
β Premiums may be paid with pre-tax corporate dollars
(depending on policy type and your accountant's structure)
β Life insurance proceeds can flow through the Capital Dividend Account (CDA)
β transferring the death benefit to shareholders tax-free
β Disability insurance purchased personally (not corporately)
pays out tax-free if you β not your employer β paid the premiums
β A combination of personal and corporate coverage can be structured
to optimise both protection AND tax efficiency
This is not a strategy I can build for you in a caption.
But it IS a strategy I can walk through with you in a 30-minute conversation β
alongside your accountant, or in preparation for a meeting with them.
I work with incorporated physicians and nurse practitioners across BC
who want their insurance to do more than just protect them.
They want it to be a financial asset.

Today is a day to rest.
And to remember why the work matters.
To every nurse who has worked a holiday shift.
To every physician who never fully clocked out.
To every healthcare worker who gave their energy to strangers
so that their own family could have a better life.
Your labour is sacred.
And the income it generates the mortgage payments, the groceries,
the school fees, the retirement contributions, the security your family feels
because you show up that income deserves the same care you give your patients.
This week, I'll be posting about something that gets overlooked on Labour Day:
protecting the financial value of your work.
Not with anxiety.
With dignity. With intention. With love.
Rest today. Build tomorrow. π

The word 'diligent' stops me every time I read this.
Not brilliant. Not lucky. Not perfectly timed.
Diligent.
Showing up consistently, even when it's uncomfortable.
Doing the unglamorous work before the crisis demands it.
Building the plan while everything is fine because that's when building is possible.
This is what a financial protection plan is.
Not a fear response. Not pessimism.
Diligence. Applied to love. Applied to legacy.
On this Saturday what is one diligent step you could take
toward your family's financial security?
Share it below. No matter how small.
Because small and consistent beats grand and never. π

**βDonβt wait for life to teach you the value of protection.
Prepare while things are still okay.β**
β September reminder
When life is going well, itβs easy to believe it will stay that way.
Youβre healthy. Youβre working. Your family is doing well. Bills are being paid, plans are being made, and the future feels predictable.
So protection often becomes something we say weβll look at **later.**
But preparation is most valuable **before** you need it.
Not after an illness.
Not after an accident.
Not when your income has already been affected.
Not when your family is suddenly forced to make financial decisions under pressure.
**While things are still okay.**
Financial protection isnβt about expecting something bad to happen. Itβs about making sure one unexpected event doesnβt erase years of hard work.
Ask yourself:
β’ If I couldnβt work for an extended period, what would happen to my income?
β’ Would my current benefits be enough for my family?
β’ Have my responsibilities changed since I first got covered?
β’ If something happened to me, would the people who depend on me be financially protected?
Your life changes over timeand your protection should be reviewed as it does.
Maybe you have a new family, a mortgage, a higher income, new financial goals, or responsibilities you didnβt have a few years ago.
**You donβt need to live in fear of tomorrow. You simply need to be intentional about preparing for it.**
This September, take a moment to review what you have, understand what it actually covers, and identify the gaps you may not have considered.
Because the goal isnβt to prepare for the worst.
**Itβs to protect the life youβve worked so hard to build.**
β€οΈ If youβre unsure whether your current coverage still fits your life, **send me a message. Letβs have a conversation and get clear on where you stand.**

Welcome back.
September feels like a fresh start and in many ways, it is.
New school year. New fiscal quarter. Cooler mornings.
New energy to actually deal with the things we kept deferring.
This month, I want to go deeper than August.
We talked about employer benefits gaps.
We talked about disability insurance and critical illness.
We talked about life insurance and the DIME formula.
September is where we get specific.
This month's focus:
β Self-employed and incorporated healthcare professionals
β Healthcare workers going through career transitions
β The real cost of delaying CI coverage in actual dollars
β Maternity and parental leave coverage gaps
β And as always faith, legacy, and the deeper reason behind the plan
If you're new here: I'm Amelia Dela Fuente.
