This past week, we travelled to Winnipeg to celebrate IG Wealth Management’s 100th anniversary.

Wednesday morning, we heard from Damon Murchison and Mark Kinzel, who spoke about how AI is changing our industry and so many others. One thing that really stood out to us is the importance of the personal relationships we build with our clients and the relationships we strive to develop with new clients. While technology continues to evolve, the trust, personal connection, and understanding that come with helping people navigate their financial lives remain incredibly important.

On Thursday morning, we heard from several key speakers, including Philip Petursson, who shared insights on today’s markets, what we can learn from historical market events, and Canada’s business relationships with other countries.

We also had the opportunity to listen to Chris Hadfield and Jeremy Hansen speak about the importance of teamwork and collaboration. Hearing Jeremy share his experiences from his recent expedition was a great way to wrap up the sessions.

Overall, it was a great trip, not only for the opportunity to learn, but also to reconnect with friends and colleagues from across the country.

Good debt versus bad debt - What's the difference?

Good debt will help you grow over time and typically carries a lower interest rate. Think:

- Mortgages
- Business Investments
- Investment Loans

Bad debt on the other hand can hold you back financially with higher rates. Think:

- Credit cards
- Impulse purchases
- Financing large depreciating assets like vehicles

Understanding the difference between the two is key in building a successful plan. Even good debt can turn bad if you don't have a clear repayment plan or take more than you can afford.
