Happy Mother’s Day!
A little cool, but nice to get outside and get your garden ready. Here’s one of our gardeners, Carole, with her daughter and granddaughters. Such a nice sight to see them are all working together and enjoying their day.

🌿 Looking for a reliable local tree service? I highly recommend Elite Tree Services.
https://www.its-elite.com
We’d like to thank them for their continued generosity to our community garden. They recently delivered another load of beautiful wood chips completely free of charge, helping us get set up for the season, (even if spring is taking its time this year)!🙈
🌱 Wood chips do so much for a garden. As they break down, they add organic matter to the soil, improve soil health, help retain moisture, and keep the weeds down. If you are visiting sometime, pull back a layer you’ll discover rich, healthy soil teeming with worms.
We use them around our beds and pathways to keep everything neat and tidy and looking its best.
Derek recently took the step of becoming the full owner of the company. As both a person and a business owner, he is kind, genuine, and hardworking. Supporting local entrepreneurs like him is more important than ever, and we’re grateful for all he does for our community.

In Loving Memory of Ron
It is with heavy hearts that we remember our dear friend and fellow gardener, Ron, who was a cherished member of our community garden since 2018.
Ron tended one of the most beautiful plots here, his garden was truly the envy of us all. With unwavering passion, he created a space that reflected his deep love for growing things.
Beyond his remarkable green thumb, Ron was simply a kind and generous soul. Strike up a conversation with him about vegetables, weather, family, or life, and an hour would slip by unnoticed, filled with laughter, wisdom, and genuine warmth. He had that rare gift of making everyone feel seen and valued.
Above all, Ron cherished his beautiful wife Sharon and their family. Their love was evident in every story he shared and every quiet smile when he spoke of them.
Ron will be deeply missed this growing season and always. His absence will be felt in the quieter paths, the shared harvests, the shared seeds, and the conversations that once flowed so easily.
In his honor, and in celebration of his lifelong passion for apple trees, we will plant a young apple tree here in the community garden this spring. As it grows and bears fruit in the years to come, it will serve as a living reminder of Ron’s generosity, his expertise, and the enduring beauty he brought to our beautiful garden.
Rest in peace, Ron. Thank you for everything. ❤️❤️❤️

The Stittsville-Goulbourn Horticultural Society, Gardening Eastern Ontario is hosting its Fall Plant Sale at our garden on September 6. I’d love for you all to come, as this is a great chance to get a head start on your gardening for next year. Planting in the fall gives amazing results—the winter snow gets absorbed into the plants, helping their roots get well established before new growth begins in spring.
Supporting our local horticultural society does so much for our community. This group is dedicated to making our spaces beautiful, like the area at Village Square, which they manage. One of their bigger projects is the Lee Boltwood Park on Abbott near Terry Fox. This garden, planned and cared for by lead gardener Arlene Rowe, is full of native Ontario plants on purpose. It’s a great example for our community, showing how these plants can survive drought conditions since they’re so well-suited to our environment.
I encourage everyone to come out, even if you’re not buying anything, just to take a look around our garden—it’s truly beautiful. Hope to see you there!

Their commitment to Nourish a Better World also extends to local groups like Deep Roots Food Hub and Eco West Enders making our communities more sustainable and vibrant. We're so grateful! 🙌 And we had a special visitor stop by! 🦊
