🇨🇦 TARIFF WAR: HOW COULD IT AFFECT CANADIANS?
Tariffs don’t just affect governments and businesses, they can have a ripple effect on everyday Canadians.
From higher costs for imported products and business supplies to potential impacts on workers, the effects can reach across different industries.
The Canadian government has announced a $7.5 billion support package to help Canadian businesses and workers respond to the impact of U.S. tariffs.
Support can include:
🏢 Financing and loans for businesses
📈 Funding to help businesses adapt and diversify
🌎 Support for finding new markets
👷 Training and employment support for affected workers
But here’s the catch: not every program is available to everyone. Eligibility can depend on your business, industry, and circumstances.
Not sure how tariffs could affect you or what support may be available? Book a FREE consultation with T.U.A. We’re here to help you understand your options and navigate the process.

Tax Education with T.U.A 🇨🇦🇺🇸
Big shifts are happening in the Canada vs U.S. trade, and it could affect your wallet sooner than you think.
Here’s a simple breakdown of what Canadians need to know…
1. What is a tariff?
- A tax placed on imported goods. When countries impose tariffs on each other, costs go up for businesses and eventually, consumers feel the ripple effect.
2. What’s happening right now?
- The U.S. has placed tariffs on Canadian goods, and Canada is responding. Starting September 8, 2026, Canada is introducing 15%, 25%, and 50% counter-tariffs on U.S. products covering approx. $27.6 billion in imports.
3. Key sectors affected:
- Steel & Aluminum
- Dairy & Appliances
- Electronics & Furniture
- Clothing, Pulp/Paper
4. Why should you care?
- Higher business import costs can lead to shifting supply chains, changing shelf prices, and industry-wide impacts for workers.

🇨🇦🇺🇸 USA vs. CANADA: Lake Ontario or “Lake America”?
The Canada vs U.S. tensions continue, and now, even a Great Lake is part of the conversation.
U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order renaming Lake Ontario “Lake America” for U.S. federal use, with the change taking effect immediately.
But there’s one catch: 🇨🇦 Canada isn’t changing the name.
The lake borders both Ontario and New York, with Toronto sitting along its northwestern shore. While the order directs U.S. federal officials to use the new name in American government records, it does not require Canada or international organizations to adopt it.
So, on this side of the border?
🌊 It’s still Lake Ontario.
Another unusual chapter in the ongoing Canada vs U.S. relationship 🇨🇦🇺🇸

🇨🇦🇺🇸 USA vs. CANADA: Canada Fights Back
The Canada vs U.S. trade dispute is having real consequences for businesses on both sides of the border.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced that Ontario would cancel its $100 million CAD Starlink contract and restrict U.S. companies from bidding on certain provincial contracts in response to U.S. tariffs.
The message from Ontario? Tariffs have consequences.
🏢 Businesses can lose contracts
👷 Workers can feel the impact
📈 Costs and prices can increase
🌎 Supply chains and trade relationships can shift
Canada and the United States have deeply connected economies, meaning decisions made on one side of the border can have ripple effects on businesses, workers, and consumers on the other.

Part 2: How We Fixed the $7,000+ Tax Mistake
The employer had shut down, so our client had no one to contact to correct the error on their tax document 😳
With the client’s permission, we stepped in and contacted the CRA directly. Since employers are required to submit tax information to the CRA, the CRA can investigate the issue, contact the company, and have the incorrect document corrected before the tax return is filed.
Situations like this happen more often than you might think and knowing how to properly handle them can make all the difference.
This is why having a tax professional review your documents isn’t just helpful… it can save you from a BIG headache later.
💡The takeaway: Don’t assume your tax slips are always correct. Review them carefully, and if something doesn’t look right, get professional help.
